Saturday 5th February 1989
Midland Combination Premier
Coleshill Town 2 v 2 Knowle
Scorer: Herman Wilson 2.

Sunday Mercury Wrote:
Two equalising goals in each half from Herman Wilson gave Coleshill a share of the spoils after a tense relegation encounter with Knowle. Knowle produced the opening goal in the 20th minute when Hayden was on hand to head home a cross at the far post. Coleshill fought back to equalise 10 minutes later when a free-kick on the left by Jennings was allowed to run free for Wilson to score from 10 yards. Three minutes after the break Knowle regained the lead when Whittingham neatly beat two defenders before rounding keeper Lutwyche to score from 12 yards. With 10 minutes remaining Brady cleverly beat three Knowle defenders before chipping from the right for Wilson to score the leveller.

Coleshill Win At Last
Victory is just around the corner! This was the optimistic phrase uttered by Coleshill Town manager Bernie Knight, last week following his team’s 3-1 defeat at the hands of Handsworth. Well now the Town have emerged from around the corner and into the open, having visited and beaten Hillbrook United 3-1 and this fine piece of “fortune telling” was performed without several of the regulars. Victim of a mid-week motor cycle accident was centre half Billy Holmes, a “gammy” leg leaving him an absentee, while centre forward Gordon Moseley was also missing. The first half produced several near misses but when the half was stage arrived the score line remained blank. Hillbrook opened the score after 52 minutes, their outside right placing a perfect shot wide of the Town keeper Hobbs. Coleshill were soon back on level terms when, after a lapse of only five minutes, Roy White was in position to receive a centre from Cooper. This was just the tonic the Town needed and Jimmy Hillias put them into the lead, with White sealing Hillbrook’s fate with a further goal two minutes from time. Roy Dainty deputising for the injured Holmes gave a superb display with Jeff Bevan solid at right back.
