THIS WEEK 2013/14 -25, 50 and 100 YEARS AGO WEEK 28

1988/89
Saturday 18th February 1989
Midland Combination Premier
Northfield Town 2 v 1 Coleshill Town
Scorer: G. Bennett.

Sunday Mercury Wrote:
All the excitement of this game was confined to the last six minutes, despite both teams trying to play attractive football throughout. Northfield went ahead in the 54th minute following a good move involving Moore, Paisley and Young before Williams finished clinically from 12 yards. After 85 minutes, Bennett equalised for Coleshill with a 20 yard shot into the top corner. Northfield pressed on and in injury time, Young hit the second. Coleshill came straight back and unbelievably Gormley lifted the ball over the bar from two yards.

1963/64
Saturday 15th February 1964
Queens Hospital Cup 3rd Round Replay
Coleshill Hall Reserves 0 v 2 Coleshill Town
Scorer: Jimmy Hellias 2.

Coleshill Chronicle Wrote:
Coleshill Hall, who the previous week forced this replay after trailing by five clear goals, failed at the second attempt, the Town passing into the fourth round, facing a journey to Bentley United. The visitors were given a grand start when after only four minutes right winger Jimmy Hellias saw his cross-shot enter the net off the foot of the post. This was just the tonic the Town needed and heavy pressure was put on the Hall defence, with great work being executed by centre half Johnny Clayton. The Hall’s best chance of this keenly contested first half fell to centre forward Dave Bloxham, his hard drive striking the cross-bar. The Town enjoyed most of the play in the second-half and a further goal from Hellias in the 70th minute sealed the Hall’s fate. They were never able to repeat their shock treatment of the previous week. Billy Holmes, Geog Beavon, Dainty and Checkley kept a close watch on the Town defence, Jimmy Hellias proving the match winning hero.
