WE MEET AGAIN – Dunkirk

Coleshill and Dunkirk have only ever met in the Midland Alliance since Dunkirk were promoted for the 2010/11 season.

The Nottinghamshire based side won the East Midlands Counties League in 2009/10 and gained promotion to the Alliance to play at Level 5 for the first time since they were founded in 1946. "The Boatmen" only lost four games that promotion season and three of them came in the first six games. Dunkirk had only been at step 6 for two years being founder members of the East Midlands Counties’ League, previous to that they played in the Central Midlands League.

In a strange anomaly Dunkirk did the double over Coleshill in their first season in the Alliance winning both games 1-0 and then the next season Coleshill did the double over Dunkirk again winning both games by the only goal. Danny Carter scoring both the goals the latter coming in the penultimate game of a difficult season, but the win ensured Coleshill stayed in the Alliance for at least another year. Dunkirk won both games in the 2012/13 season, another struggle against relegation for Town but this season Coleshill gained a very valuable away point at Dunkirk in November. Coleshill currently lie in 7th place with 41 points from their 25 games. Dunkirk are eleven places below with 26 points from 26 games.

Coleshill have had six games called off due to the weather and haven’t played since the FA Vase game at Dunston so they are in desperate need of a run out. Dunkirk have had four games in that time, three defeats to Quorn Kirby and Alvechurch but an impressive win at Loughborough University something Town didn’t achieve this season.

Carter finds his goal touch as Town secure vital double
COLESHILL Town took a giant step towards survival in the Midland Alliance after beating Dunkirk on Tuesday night.

Dunkirk started brightly and forced Coleshill keeper Chris Jay into three good early saves but neither side could break the deadlock before half-time.

Coleshill dominated the second half and had a great chance to take the lead but Chris Gummery blazed over the bar.

The breakthrough came when Danny Carter latched on to a great ball from player manager Carl Adams and chipped the ball over the advancing James Mountain in the Dunkirk goal.

Gumery was then sent off as the away side applied the pressure late on but Coleshill managed to hold on to record another vital win.
