Saturday 18th March 1989
Midland Combination Premier
Coleshill Town 1 v 2 Walsall Wood
Scorer: Chris Cotton.

Sunday Mercury Wrote:
A winning goal 12 minutes from time by Andy Ratcliffe gave Walsall Wood the points to leave Coleshill struggling near the foot of the table. Walsall almost took the lead after 17 minutes when a through ball from Phil Davies-Llewelyn found Richard Asson in the clear but he slipped at the vital moment. On the half hour a right-wing cross from Coleshill’s Tom Woolley was headed narrowly wide by Tony Gormley from eight yards. Walsall took the lead after 48 minutes when John Capaldi found Asson who advanced before neatly chipping the keeper from 15 yards. Coleshill came back to equalise after 74 minutes when former Moor Green striker Chris Cotton scored from close range after Rory Cash had headed on a free kick from Steve Williams. Four minutes later Walsall scored the match winner when a cross from John Wootton was misjudged by the keeper and Ratcliffe netted from six yards.

Birmingham Old Boys League Mercian Division
Sherwood Rangers 2 v 2 Coleshill Town
Scorer: Gordon Moseley 2.

Coleshill Chronicle Wrote:
Town Covered In Mud And Glory
Coleshill Town covered themselves with both mud and glory when forcing the present league leaders, Sherwood Rangers, to give up a point from a 2-2 draw. The Town arrived at Swanhurst Park, Yardley, and found a number of “ducks” swimming around the centre circle. Referee Gordon Richards, however, soon disposed of them and the game, surprisingly, got under way. Coleshill attacked from the word “go” and inside four minutes had scored – Trevor Satchwell at left half placed a long cross to Gordon Moseley who made no mistake. Sherwood were not relishing the slippery underfoot conditions and they dropped further behind when Moseley, receiving a long through ball, volleyed it home to leave the Town with a 2-0 interval lead. Sherwood with vital points hanging in the balance, returned for the second half with their sleeves rolled up and after ten minutes had pulled a goal back through King – Cooper being hesitant in leaving his goal. The Town’s attack was not been give much scope but they looked certain to score when Moseley broke clear but his hard drive struck an upright. Sherwood forced the equaliser after 68 minutes – a corner from the right wing passing over the outstretched arm of Cooper to Woolley, who shot into the net from close range. Both sides spent the remainder of the game in quest of the winning goal but the respective defences held out to leave the result a just and fair one.
