Honeymoon period must come to an end for Coleshill to hit top form

WEDDINGS and stag dos are getting in the way of Coleshill Town's early season progress – but manager Paul Casey is pleased with how his new-look squad is shaping up, writes Bobby Bridge.

The Colemen have made a strong start to their Midland Football League Premier campaign, backing up the opening-day victory over Continental Star with a draw against Long Eaton in midweek.

"I'm delighted with the way the new signings are doing and we are looking really strong at the back," said Casey. "Offensively we're still lacking a bit of cohesion and as a squad things are still yet to gel properly.

"We've had four weddings in the squad and all the stag dos, it has an impact, but there's not much you can do about that. Hopefully from here on in I will have a more settled squad to work with."

Coleshill welcome back goalkeeper Chris Jay for the trip to Brocton on Saturday, having used two loan signings in the first games of the season.

"I've got to thank Redditch manager Liam McDonald," added Casey. "He's let me have both of his keepers, Sam Hornby and Brad Caplow, and they've both been excellent.

"We've only conceded the two goals, one was an own goal and the other was a massive deflection so there's nothing they could have done about either goal, they've been brilliant for us while Chris has been away, and that was on a honeymoon! "In the starting line-up against Continental Star we had six new players from last season so it's going to take a bit of time for them to bed in here at Coleshill.

"At the moment I'd give us a six out of ten, we're looking tough to beat but there's plenty to work on."
