Casey says rivals Boldmere set a standard for Coleshill
Writes the Coleshill Herald
COLESHILL Town boss Paul Casey has paid arguably the highest compliment to Friday night's opponents – calling Boldmere St Michaels the "benchmark" in the Midland Football Premier League.
Casey spent five years as a coach and the same time as a player at Boldmere and he said the Sutton Coldfield-based club are the pinnacle in terms of facilities, consistency and history.
"They are the benchmark," said Casey.
"If you're looking at a club to emulate then it's Boldmere.
"In terms of the facilities, the changing room, top six consistency and history then it's them you look at. They've always been up there.
"It'll be a great game on Friday if it's on. It's a local derby and they are always exciting, especially over Christmas."
Casey, though, is not prepared to roll over against The Mikes and says his Coleshill side are playing brilliantly.
"We beat Loughborough 2-0 on Boxing Day and believe me it could have been 12 or 13. It was a very strange game.
"We dominated for 90 minutes and they literally had ten men behind the ball. It was probably the best time to play Loughborough, though, as their best crop of students are back at home.
"They came with a game plan and they got full respect from me. We're playing really well and have a great squad here."
Striker Shane Benjamin notched his 24th goal of the campaign in the Boxing Day victory and tops the league's scoring chart.
"Shane could have had a hat-trick against Loughborough," added Casey. "He had some great chances.
"I've brought in centre forward Rickie Cutting from Coventry Copsewood too, who will add another dimension to our game.
"He's scored goals wherever he has been and will run in the channels for us. Rickie's a busy player and something we've needed."
Casey also confirmed he has let former top scorer Matthew Brown leave for pastures new while Matt Gasper and Jonathan Jones have been sidelined for the season with cruciate and ankle ligament injuries respectively.
"The squad has settled down and we're in a good place. If Friday night's game is off I don't mind. We'll dust ourselves down and go again."
Coleshill travel to Boldmere on Friday, kick-off 7.30pm.
