Boldmere St Michaels 0 v 0 Coleshill Town
SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Boldmere failed to break down a hard working Coleshill side and paid the price, dropping two valuable points. Neither side created many chances in the first half, with both keepers having little to do. Coleshill’s best chance fell in the ninth minute when Jones hit the ball wide. Bennett for Boldmere hit the side netting a minute before the interval. In the second half Boldmere had more of the play, and straight from the kick-off Houghton in the Coleshill goal, brought off a double save from Davies. But with Coleshill happy to defend, Boldmere never took advantage of the situation.

COLESHILL CHRONICLE WROTE
Coleshill Heroes Go On To Villa Park Final
Villa Park here we come! This was the cry echoed by Bernie Knight and his “Green and Whites” on Saturday when they booked themselves into the Aston Villa Shield Final. A great 5-3 victory over mighty Sherwood Rangers – only their second defeat this season – gave the Town a date to meet Aston Celtic at the “Claret and Blue” stadium on one evening in April. History will repeat itself on that night. For only a few seasons back when Coleshill defeated Spartan Wanderers 2-0 in the same final, the Wanderers were the champions of the Suburban division, at present, the “Celtic” head the same league. The Aston men will want to keep the trophy close to the “Park” but they will find this new look Town side has improved in leaps and bounds over the past three weeks and they will be a tough nut to crack. The Town however were stunned by Sherwood who after just 15 minutes had taken a 2-0 lead through Jones and Burke but recovering well the Town came within an ace of replying on three occasions before they finally pulled one back through Roy Middleton, who headed home a precision cross from Ian Ewan minutes before the interval. The second half was only six minutes old when the Town drew level. Dave Whitehouse broke through to release a great centre for Ian Ewan to rocket the ball home on the run. Sherwood – shaken by Coleshill’s come back – were pushed further into the gloom when their right half King was injured and returned after treatment to limp in the forward line. The rain-sodden pitch now began to churn up badly but Coleshill revelled under the conditions and proved the fact by taking the lead in the 63rd minute when centre forward Paddy Murray scored a brilliant goal – so brilliant that the Rangers players stood and applauded his effort. Sherwood made the mistake of playing their attacks down the muddy centre which helped the Coleshill defence to smother their efforts. Murray proved himself the “man-of-the-match” by completing a hat-trick and although Sherwood managed to score a late goal through Jones, they were left a battered and bent side by a Coleshill side that had given their best display of the season.
Team: Gary Cooper, John Dore, Jim Henry, .Clayton, B.Mathews, G.Mathews, Tony Pugh, Billy Fair, Roy Middleton, Paddy Murray, Dave Whitehouse, Ian Ewan.
