COLESHILL CHRONICLE WROTE
Murray Puts Dark Days In The Past

The dark memories of Coleshill Town’s black days are long forgotten. For Bernie Knight and his gallant fighters are riding along and on a crest of a wave – already through to the Aston Villa Shield Final, they are now pulling themselves up into a respectable league position. And the man directly concerned with steering Coleshill off the rocks is centre forward Paddy Murray. Not since the days of leader Harry Stokes – who donned the Town’s No9 shirt for the best part of 12 years – have goals come so sweetly for the “Green and Whites” supporters. On Saturday, this broth of an Irish boyo scored all four goals in the Town’s 4-3 whacking of Yardley Amateurs – and in doing so took his total to 18 in a comparatively short time. This surge of goals for Coleshill started when Roy Middleton joined the Town’s ranks to break a run of seven defeats with a number of hat-tricks – his tally stands at 22. But after being put in the Campbell-Orr Shield short list (league representative team) Middleton seemed to lose his golden touch but found a new position at inside right on the arrival of Murray. This proved to be a blessing in disguise. He linked brilliantly with the new leader and his prompting enabled Murray to rattle home the goals. But even without Middleton on Saturday – he was at Dave Whitehouse’s wedding – Murray turned up trumps. He hammered home a Billy Friar pass in the 7th minute and after Yardley centre forward Danks had given his side a 2-1 interval lead, he grabbed a second half hat-trick to give Town both points.
