ADAMS WILL NOT CHANGE TEAM
By Jack Arkell
Coleshill Town manager Carl Adams has stated that he does not look to rest his first team for the upcoming Midlands Alliance League fixture against Kirby Muxloe, despite the second leg of the League Cup Semi-final following just a few days after the Saturday game.
Adams has admitted that in hindsight, resting a host of first team players before the first leg of the cup tie against Westfields took all momentum out of the side, but says ‘you learn from your mistakes. If you change a winning team, you end up upsetting players, and what’s the point in that?’ The line up for the league game at Coalville days before the first leg saw just four outfield regulars taking to the pitch in a game in which while the youngsters impressed, it was evident that should more experienced players have started, Coleshill could have bagged a big three points in their hunt for a finish in the top eight.
‘Since the Westfields game we’ve had two great wins against Causeway and Coventry Sphinx, and we’ve battered them,’ Adams said after the 4-1 win at Coventry Sphinx. This game was a memorable one as it capped a rare double of league victories over Coventry’s leading non-league club, which is testament to the great work that Carl Adams has done since arriving at Pack Meadow.
Saturday will see Coleshill Town battle Kirby Muxloe with more precious league points on offer, in a game that promises to be a very close encounter with only one point separating the teams in a very tight mid-table. Kirby have enjoyed a very successful first season in the Midlands Alliance league, and haven’t failed to score in their last seven games.
The two sides met in August, playing out a goalless draw, but Coleshill have come on leaps and bounds since then, and are finding the net for fun, sharing the goals around the team. The last six goals have all been from different scorers (including an own goal), and so it seems that even if the team is slightly weakened with one eye on the crunch clash at Westfields where Coleshill must overturn a 3-1 deficit, three points will be expected.
