THIS WEEK 25 Years Ago
With the new season about to start this saturday we begin a look back at seasons 16, 25, 75 and 10050 years ago.
(seasons currently being researched)
The 1994/95 season started on the 20th August, 1960/61 and 1910/11 seasons began 3rd september, and 1935/36 season started 14th september, so we will catch up with all of them in the next few weeks.
The 1985/86 season commenced on Saturday 10th August 1985 with a home game against old rivals Highgate United, in the Midland Combination Premier League. Coleshill finished runners up in the Mid Com Prem two seasons prior under the leadership of Colin Holder but when he left, his assistant Keith Shrimpton (ex Walsall) took over. Coleshill struggled in Shrimpton's first season in charge as most of the successfull Holder team left. Town finished 4th from bottom (17th from 20) with only 10 wins all season but Shrimpton was hopefull of better things this time round. Harry Davies was the Chairman with his wife Sheila as Secretary. Councillor V.J. Wright was President and Keith Shrimpton was assisted by ex player Johnny Gardner. The teams main sponsor was Metal Products (Arden) Limited.

Midland Combination Premier
Coleshill Town 2 v 2 Highgate United
Coleshill: Ian Paul, Mark Harris.
Highgate: Alvin Pinnock, Tommy Fitzgerald.
THE ARGUS WROTE:
A much changed Highgate side had to be satisfied with one point at Coleshill. New boy Johnny Mitchell signed for Highgate before the match. Mitchell had for many years been a firm favourite at Moor Green. The match finished 2-2. Ian Paul showed his usual class and sealed his performance with a goal. Mark Harris got the other for Coleshill with Alvin Pinnock and Tommy Fitzgerald getting the goals for Highgate.
Coleshill were at home again on the Tuesday (13th August) to Boldmere St Michaels. "Boldmere won 2-0 at Coleshill with goals from Gordon after five minutes and Richards. In what was described as a tight game the "Mikes" had worn the opposition down and already were looking strong defensively." Taken from "A History of Boldmere St Michaels FC."
Coleshill then travelled to Evesham the following saturday.
