WE MEET AGAIN - Evesham United

With Evesham United playing in the Zamaretto Southern League Premier it seems on the surface that the teams are miles apart, but they did in fact do battle in the same league for 17 years.

Evesham joined the Midland Combination Division 1 (later Premier) in 1965 and won the championship that year and also in 1967/68 and 68/69. Coleshill were runners up in division 2 and were promoted to Division 1 for the start of the 1975/76 season and so the two teams competed continually until Evesham finally won the championship again in 1991/92 and were promoted to the Southern League Division 1. The last time the two sides met was in fact the day Evesham were crowned champions at Pack Meadow on 2nd May 1992, a 1-0 win for United enough to ensure the title.

Of the 34 meetings during that time my records are incomplete and I can only come up with 15 results but it doesn't make good reading:

Coleshill Score First
1982/83 Away 1-0 Dyer
1983/84 Home 3-3 Away 4-2
1984/85 Home 3-1 Away 1-2
1985/86 Home 1-2 Away 1-5 Ian Paul
1988/89 Home 1-5 Brady Away 0-4
1989/90 Home 0-1 Away 0-1
1990/91 Home 3-1 Bennett, Daly, Malanaphy. Away 0-1
1991/92 Home 0-1 Away 0-0

19 games with no results available.

Evesham are currently ground sharing at Worcester City as they prepare to move into a purpose built stadium on the outskirts of town. My understanding is that the main stand is almost complete, the floodlights are erected and the club house work is going well.

"The Robins" progressed from the Mid Com Prem to the Southern League Div 1 and then to the Premier for season 2005/06 but they only lasted that one season and were relegated. They then won the Midland Division in 2007/08 to rejoin the Premier and have finished 9th and 16th in their two seasons there.

This season they started off with a win at Didcot Town on the opening day but then drew with Banbury, Bedford and Halesowen and have lost to Truro City, Tiverton Town and Weymouth. Their record so far reads:

P7 W1 D3 L3 F7 A10 Pts6 Pos 17th.
