WE MEET AGAIN - Stratford Town

Coleshill entertain Stratford Town on Tuesday 19th October, the sixth meeting since Coleshill were promoted to the Alliance, four previous legue games and an FA Vase tie.

Stratford haven't had the best of starts but they now have a new manager and everyone will be bursting a gut to impress the new boss. Rod Brown resigned after about a year in charge and has been superceded by ex Hinckley United, Solihull and Leamington player, Morton Titterton. He will join up with his previous management partnership from Leamington Jason Cadden and Paul Eden, but in a reversal of roles. If they can get anywhere near the success they had with Leamington then Stratford will be knocking on the door very soon.

Stratford currently lie in 12th place with a record of:
P13 W6 D1 L6 F18 A14

Since the two teams came together in the Alliance the results have been:

2008/09

Stratford joined the Midland Combination in 1954 and remained there, apart from a couple of brief spells in the Birmingham & District League and the Hellenic League, until they became founder members of the Midland Alliance in 1994 having finished 9th in the Com. So when Coleshill were promoted to the Com's top division in 1975, the two sides met at this level for 14 seasons, and also throw in a couple of cup tie's.

The further I go back the poorer my records but this is what I've got: Coleshill score first and scorers given where available:

1992/93 Home 3-0 Away 1-2 Casey
1991/92 Home 0-0 Away 2-2 Bradley, Whipps.
1990/91 Home 2-0 Rosborough, Taylor. Away 2-2 Timms, Taylor.
1989/90 Home 1-0 Brady Away 0-1.
1988/89 Home 0-5 Away 1-1 Melvin.
1987/88 Home ??? Away ???
1986/87 Home ??? Away ???
1985/86 Home 1-0 Howkins Away 0-0
1984/85 Home 2-1 Newton, Smith Away ???
1983/84 Home 2-0 Away 2-1 Duddy, Allen.
1982/83 Home ??? Away 1-0
1981/82 Home ??? Away ???
1977/78 Home ??? Away ???

Midland Combination Challenge Cup 1988/89 Coleshill lost 0-1.
FA Vase 1982 Coleshill lost 1-2.

So, Coleshill don't seem to do so bad against Stratford in league games over the years. The secret is not to play them in cup competitions as we always lose. This may be a problem as we have to go to Stratford on Tuesday 26th October in the first round of the Polymac Services League Cup!!!
