Saturday 26th October 1985
Skol Midland Combination Premier
Stratford Town 0 v 0 Coleshill Town
SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Coleshill threatened Stratford's unbeaten record with an aggresive first half display. Stratford were pressurised from the kick off and only some desperate defending by Nibblett and Thompson prevented the visitors from scoring. After 15mins Williams headed a cross from Finnegan just over the Stratford bar and in the 35th min Stratford keeper Berry saved well from Sylvest. Stratford attacked fiecely in the second half and Barrett worked hard on his debut but the home side lacked power up front and were unable to pierce Coleshill's defence.

Coleshill, fighting hard to get back among the league leaders, picked up two useful points but for an inspired display by Town's new keeper Garry Cooper, a point may easily have been lost. Wilson was a tower of strength at centre half with Jeff Bevan netting both goals.

COLESHILL CHRONICLE WROTE
These teams met at Coleshill on Saturday last, in beautiful weather, before a good muster of spectators. Coleshill put their full team on the field with the exception of Watkins, who was taken ill, but the local club were fortunate to be able to fall back on such a capable player as J.A. Nichols. The game was looked upon as a forgone conclusion for the "Rabbits" and so it proved. The game opened sensationally, Coleshill scoring in the first minute, and by half time they had piled on five.
The second half was a little better, for Coleshill only managed to get two more goals, and so a very one sided game ended 7 goals to 0.
Coleshill Team: Goal: Humphries, Backs: Shaw and Caswell, Half Backs: Clarke, Clare (captain) and Clive, Forwards: Sullivan, Nichols, Wright, Lewis and Williams.
Referee Mr Heagh of Birmingham.
The feature of the game was the splendid forward work of the Coleshill team: the proved themselves powerful and effective throughout. Of the Coleshill defence little can be said as they were never really extended. They were simply there when wanted.
Today, Saturday, Coleshill journey to Atherstone to meet the Amateurs in the first round of the Wilnecote Cup. A good team will be put on the field and let us hope we shall return the compliments of last year, when Atherstone sprung a surprise and beat Coleshill by one goal to nil. Next week we journey to Glascote to meet Glascote Heath Albion in the second round of the Birmingham Junior Cup.
"FORWARD"
"I HEAR"
That Coleshill Football Club went a step further in the Fazely Cup on saturday last.
That they beat Amington by 7 goals to 0.
That S. Wright celebrated his 21st birthday by scoring 3 goals.
That he only wanted 2 more to make it 21 goals for the season.
That it was like old times to see Sullivan in the team again.
