Postby Alan Beckett » Wed Dec 08, 2010 2:40 pm

THIS WEEK - 16, 25, 50, 75 and 100 Years Ago

1994/95

Saturday 3rd December 1994
Midland Combination Premier
Coleshill Town 1 v 3 Studley BKL

Scorer: Jon Johnson.

SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Super Slowey Quick Off The Mark
Things are looking good for Studley BKL who swooped to sign Marcus Slowey from Chelmsley Town in mid-week. The striker was soon on the mark for his new side, scoring twice as Bees romped to a 3-1 win at Coleshill Town, a result that takes them to the top. He opened the scoring on the half hour with a gem of a goal, rounding two players before lobbing the keeper from 25yards. Jon Johnson equalised 5mins before the interval but on the hour his team mate Setaro returned the lead to the visitors with an own goal. Slowey added his second 10mins from time and the Birmingham Road side can now boast the league's three leading scorers in Slowey, Paul Taylor and Ian Donegan.

1985/86

Saturday 7th December 1985
Skol Midland Combination Premier
Coleshill Town 1 v 0 Stratford Town

Scorer: Steve Howkins.

SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
It was unfortunate that an error by Berry should decide the outcome of a highly exciting and entertaining match. In the early stages Kalewski neatly set up a chance for Stratford and Belcher was unlucky to see his 15yard shot hit the post. Coleshill retaliated and following the through ball by Williams, Geaorge hit the side netting. In the 38th min a harmless looking corner kick by Howkins went under the body of Berry to give Coleshill the lead. Both sides continued to press in the second half and Kalewski and Moverly shot narrowly wide while substitute Finnegan chipped just over the Stratford bar after an astute pass by George.

Results are vague but Coleshill definately lost three of the first five league games but have picked up and I think have won four.

Next week Coleshill are Away to Bromsgrove Brookfield in the league.

1935/36

Saturday 7th December 1935
Butler Cup 1st Round Replay. (2-2)
Coleshill Town 3 v 4 Leighswood Prims

No details of scorers available.

COLESHILL CHRONICLE WROTE
The replayed tie in the Butler Cup between Leighswood Prims and Coleshill Town FC was conducted by a deputy, and his handling of the game reflected great credit, as both sides were fully satisfied. There was only a goal between the teams who were evenly matched. The odd goal in seven gave Leighswood the victory.

Next week the two sides meet again at Coleshill in a league fixture.

1910/11

Saturday 3rd December 1910
Wilnecote Charity Cup 2nd Round.
Coleshill Town v Amington Rovers

Amington failed to turn up.

COLESHILL CHRONICLE WROTE
Blank Day At Coleshill
Saturday last was a blank day at Coleshill for football. Amington Rovers should have been the visitors in the second round of the Wilnecote Charity Cup, but they failed to put in an appearance, or to even send word explaining their absence. It was a keen dissappointment to players and supporters alike, especially as a new back in L. Whorton was to make his debut.
Today, Saturday, we renew the League fixtures and play Yardley at Coleshill. Kick off 2.30 prompt. The Coleshill team will be as follows: Goal: Humphries, Backs: Shaw and Caswell, Half Backs: Clarke, Clare (captain) and Clive, Forwards: Sullivan, Watkins, Wright, Lewis and Williams. Referee, Mr Cutler of Small Heath.
It may be interesting to give the record of the Club up to Saturday last: Played 13, Won 10, Lost 3, Goals for 75, against 25. (in all competitions) Not a bad record, despite the grumbling of the last few weeks.
