Coleshill Town 2 v 3 Alvechurch

Postby Alan Beckett » Wed Aug 20, 2008 8:40 pm

Tuesday 19th August 2008
Midland Football Alliance
Coleshill Town 2 v 3 Alvechurch
Scorers:
Town: Danny Carter pen, Neil Kitching.
Alvechurch: Dave Dainty 2, James Ince.

Coleshill suffered their first defeat in the Alliance at the hands of Alvechurch, which brought an undefeated run of 16 comepitive games to an end. The score line suggests it was a close affair and at one point it did look as though Town would gain another point but in reality, Alvechurch should have been out of sight by half time such was their dominance. Alvechurch are a young side but have quality and experience in the right places, work hard for each other and look an all round good outfit.

The visitors were ahead after only 3mins when James Ince flicked on a cross and Dave Dainty headed past Craig Johnson in the Coleshill goal. The Church front pairing were a constant threat with Ince having a shot saved, Dainty shooting wide, Ince hitting the bar, all before Dainty got on the end of a long ball and lobbed Johnson on 22mins to increase the lead. Micheal Campbell, desperate for a goal, heard a shot thunder off the chest of the Church keeper and in the next attack Campbell's shot was parried into the path of Maty Robinson who was upended as he attempted to shoot. A pen and a life line. Danny Carter converted on 35mins. The half ended more even and Coleshill continued to improve in the second half although Ince and Dainty always looked likely to increase the lead. Matty Robinson was only a whisker away from a Richard Kavanaugh free kick, Campbell again turned and shot in the box and substitute Neil Kitching was getting some joy from the Church defence but just as Coleshill looked to take the game by the scruff of the neck Alvechurch scored again. James Ince finding the back of the net with an inch perfect free kick that left Johnson stranded. There was still time for Kitching to score Coleshill's second with fine header from a Kavanaugh cross but the result stood for a well deserved win for the visitors.

Manager Carl Adams knows exactly what he needs to compete in this league, and a return of some of his players from injury would help but I'm sure it won't be long before some new faces appear in the Town line up.

Team- Craig Johnson, Ryan Scott, Anthony Hall, Richard Kavanaugh, Lee Hunt, Josh McPherson (Lewis Seymour), Simon Volante, Matty Robinson, Michael Campbell (Carl Adams),Danny Carter, Harry Donaghey (Neil Kitching). Sub not used Stuart Adamson.

COLESHILL HERALD WROTE
Coleshill suffered their first defeat in the Midland Alliance on Tuesday as they lost by the odd goal in five in a thriller against Alvechurch. Carl Adam's men found themselves two goals behind after 22minutes thanks to a Dave Dainty brace, but Danny Carter pulled one back with a cooly taken 35th minute penalty. James Ince restored Alvechurch's two-goal lead after the break and Neil Kitching's late strike for Town proved to be a mere consolation.
