COLESHILL HERALD WROTE
Coleshill deservedly claimed three points from their clash with Rocester on Saturday. They missed a number of chances before they finally took a 30th minute lead through Danny Carter's penalty which had been awarded for a hand ball by Mark Grimley. Rocester responded with Gary Beardsley drilling a shot at home goalkeeper Craig Johnson who gathered the ball at the second attempt. Liam Sowter also smacked a 25 yard free kick narrowly over the bar. Paul Wood then saved well from Carter to keep the Romans just one goal adrift at the interval. Rocester started the second period with more purpose and after Will Chadwick's drive had been blocked on the line a good move down the right between Grimley and Sowter led to Paul Milward equalising with a superb header from a Sowter cross on 61 minutes. Having battled back into the game Rocester were stunned just six minutes later when Coleshill regained the lead when, following a free kick out near the right touchline, Matty Robinson scooped the ball into the net.

Coleshill Town 2 Rocester 1

Romans boss Steve Swanwick had to shuffle his pack at Coleshill on Saturday after his three main strikers – Lee Bagley, Gareth Langford and Mark Hodson - all missed the trip with injuries.

With left back Glyn Douglas and midfielder Ashley Sheridan also missing this was always going to be a difficult afternoon for Rocester, and so it proved.

Coleshill made all the early running and should have taken a 7th minute lead when Neil Kitching cut in from the left and found Matty Robinson at the far post with a low cross, however Robinson somehow stubbed his shot wide with an open goal at his mercy.

The home forwards continued to waste a series of good chances, and needed a slice of good fortune to finally find a way through. Mark Grimley handled the ball inside the area on the half-hour mark, leaving Danny Carter to send Paul Wood the wrong way from the resulting spot kick.

Rocester responded well with Gary Beardsley drilling a powerful shot from distance at Craig Johnson in the home goal, and Liam Sowter hammered a free kick narrowly over the bar.

Wood then made a vital save from Carter just before the interval, and Rocester came out for the second half with more purpose and urgency.

Will Chadwick was unlucky to see his low drive blocked by a defender before Rocester got back on level terms in the 61st minute with the goal of the game. Grimley and Sowter worked their way down the right, and Paul Milward sent a terrific header high into the net from Sowter’s cross to record his first goal for the club.

Rocester’s joy turned to dismay six minutes later when the home side scored a highly controversial winning goal. Firstly, they were awarded a dubious free kick wide on the right, and when the ball was played in towards the near post Robinson, amongst a crowd of players, scooped the ball into the net with his hand.

The match officials didn’t spot it, and despite some heated protests the goal was allowed to stand.

There was no way back for a disappointing Rocester and but for another excellent save from Wood, who dived to his right to palm away another Robinson effort for a corner, the margin of defeat would have been wider.
