Saturday 30th August 2008
F.A Cup Prelimenary Round
Coleshill Town 2 v 3 Shifnal Town
Scorers:
Colemen: Danny Carter pen, Matty Robinson.
Shifnal: Matt Hall, Ben Jevons 2.

Coleshill have made history this season by winning their first ever FA Cup game but the hope of a good run in the competition and some much needed prize money, vanished within 14mins of this pulsating encounter.

Carl Adam's squad is stretched to the limit with Kristian Kelsall and Lee Millard injured, Lewis Seymour and Harry Donaghey moving on and Richard Kavanaugh unavailable. Things will improve as Ben Usher got a run out with the reserves and Ben Porter's transfer from Shifnal to go through this week but more new faces will be needed for this the most testing of seasons.

Anthony Hall was looking forward to playing against his brother, Matt, who plays up front for Shifnal but it took the visiting sibling just 2mins to get on the score sheet as he headed down and through the legs of Craig Johnson at the far post. On 4mins Coleshill were back in it as Michael Campbell was taken out by the beafy Shifnal keeper inside the box. Danny Carter kept his nerve to level the score. No time to draw breath as Matt Hall fed a slide rule pass to Ben Jevons to side foot home on 6mins and then the two exchanged passes again for Jevons to hook home his second and Shifnal's third at the near post with less than fifteen minutes played. In between the visiting keeper picked up a back pass, Matty Robinson passed the free kick sideways for Danny Carter to strike but his effort was cleared off the line. Ant Hall nearly matched his brother but his header went just wide and Simon Volante had a shot blocked as Coleshill came more into the game but the movement of Hall and Jevons was always a threat and Jevons should have had a first half hat trick but he sent a header wide from a great position. Coleshill needed a life line and they got it just before the break. Matty Robinson and Shinal's Matt Johnson had a hand bags scuffle but the later raised his hands right infront of the Referee and off he went.

Coleshill saw more of the ball as you would expect with the man advantage and managed to pull agoal back when Campbell held the ball up for Robinson to finish with a fine left foot strike but Shifnal always looked dangerous on the break with Johnson making a brave save at the feet of Jevons and substitute Danny Dubidat hiting the bar. The nearest Coleshill came to an equaliser was another Ant Hall header and a Carter volley both of which missed the target.

Coleshill will rarely have a better chance of progressing in the FA Cup with a tie against a team from their own level but Shifnal deserved the victory and Coleshill will have to hope for a run in the Vase as Bolehall Swifts visit Pack Meadow next saturday.

Team:- Craig Johnson, Andy Sutherland, Stuart Adamson (Steve Smith), Anthony Hall, Neil Kitching, Simon Volante, Josh McPherson (Lee Hunt), Ryan Scott (Carl Adams), Danny Carter, Michael Campbell, Matty Robinson.

SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Ten-Man Town get Shift On
Shifnal Town stormed to a thrilling 3-2 victory at Coleshill Town despite playing more than half the game with 10 men. The damage was done early on as the visitors roared into a 3-1 lead after just 14 minutes. Matty Hall playing against his brother Anthony, headed Shifnal into a second minute lead only for Danny Carter to level from the penalty spot just two minutes later. But the Shropshire side hit a purple patch with Ben Jevons grabbing two goals in eight minutes to send Coleshill reeling. Matt Johnson was sent off on the stroke of half time but Shifnal still eased past their Aspire Midland Alliance rivals who bagged a second midway through the second half through Matty Robinson.
