Saturday 13th September 2008
Midland Football Alliance
Coleshill Town 0 v 0 Highgate United

This was a big game for both teams. Coleshill pipped Highgate to the title last year on goal difference and on the last day of the season. Highgate however had had the upper hand during the season with three wins over the Colemen, twice in the league and once in a cup. With both teams now in a higher league the objective is to finish as high above their near rivals as possible. Coleshill are currently 12th in the league and Highgate, without a win, are second from bottom.
The game finished with honours even but Coleshill didn't play well and were lucky to gain a point. Highgate had several chances to open the scoring but found goalkeeper Craig Johnson in great form. Coleshill's best chance was a Matty Robinson shot that was tipped onto the bar by the Gate keeper. Coleshill were reduced to 10 men for the last twenty minutes as Johnson came out of his box and was dismissed for a professional foul on a Gate forward. Stand in keeper Richard Kavanaugh was rarely tested as Town held on for a valuable point.

Team:- Craig Johnson, Ryan Scott, Richard Kavanaugh, Anthony Hall, Josh McPherson, James Dance, Simon Volante, Steve Smith (Stuart Adamson), Neil Kitching (Danny Carter), Matty Robinson (Michael Campbell), Ben Porter. Sub not used Carl Adams

SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Coleshill Town were held to a goalless draw by Highgate United despite playing the final twenty minutes without red-carded keeper Craig Johnson. Town, promoted as Midland Combination Champions, finished the match with Richard Kavanaugh between the posts but he was rarely in trouble.
