Saturday 15th November 2008
Midland Football Alliance
Oadby Town 0 v 0 Coleshill Town

Coleshill couldn't have picked a better time to visit Topps Park for the first time. The home team have won only once this term, way back in August, and currently lie second from bottom. Coleshill were on the back of two good performances against the leagues top two and welcomed back James Dance after his inforced three match absence. A win would have kept the Coleman on the heels of several teams in mid table and with winable games coming up, the chance to go into the top half. As it was a point saw Town drop one place to 17th.

Carl Adams went for a very attacking formation with three up front and James Dance supporting them from centre midfield at every opportunity. This should have put Oadby on the back foot but they never looked like a bottom table team and Coleshill's attack never made the keeper work, not once.

The game started even but it didn't take long for Oadby's best player by a country mile, to make his mark. David Fisher gave the visitors a warning as he cut inside, passing players with ease and shot straight at Chris Butler. Minutes later the same player went even closer as his left foot shot struck the post with Butler well beaten. Coleshill slowly started to gain the upper hand with Andy Sutherland shooting wide then a sustained attack saw blocked efforts from Danny Carter, Neil Kitching, Lee Bloxham and finally James Dance shot wide. Fisher's cross was cleared from under the bar by Ant Hall and Oadby's Sam Taylor headed just wide from the resulting corner. Coleshill's best chance fell to Kitching with half time approaching. Bloxham fed Sutherland down the right and his perfect cross was dummied by Carter leaving Kitching with a clear sight of goal but the captains measured volley whistled past the post.

Coleshill had finished the half well and were confident of pressing home their advantage but no one had told Oadby. The home side passed impressively and although their front two worked hard they lacked the killer touch that would have surely brought them all three points. Oadby's best bet to break the deadlock was Fisher but his luck was out as he cut inside again and sent a looping shot over Butler, his effort striking the post for the second time. For Coleshill, Dance's running with the ball caused problems but when the moves broke down it left massive holes in the midfield that Oadby took full advantage of.

All in all a disappointing result but it did show how hard the Alliance is as lowly Oadby would easily be in the top six of the mid com. Coleshill haven't reproduced the form that took them to the com title let alone stepped up to the tougher league and it is going to be a long hard winter.

Team:- Chris Butler, Anthony Hall, Lee Hunt, Carl Adams, Andy Sutherland, James Dance, Lee Bloxham (Simon Volante), Rob Matterson, Neil Kitching (Michael Campbell), Danny Carter (Ben Porter), Nathan Pulisciano. Subs not used Stuart Hendrie, Josh McPherson.

SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Coleshill Town had to settle for a goalless draw at Oadby Town

COLESHILL HERALD WROTE
Adams Quits After Oadby Stalemate
A goalless draw at Oadby Town on saturday signalled the end of manager Carl Adams' tenure at Packington Lane. Adams, who led the club to the Midland Combination Premier League title, quit just two days later feeling he had taken the club as far as he could. The game started fairly evenly although Oadby's David Fisher gave the visitors a warning when he fired straight at Chris Butler. Minutes later the same player went closer as his left foot shot struck the post with Butler well beaten. Coleshill slowly started to gain the upper hand with Andy Sutherland shooting wide. Blocked efforts from Danny Carter, Neil Kitching, Lee Bloxham and James Dance followed as the visitors looked for an opening. Fisher's cross was then cleared from under the bar by Ant Hall and Oadby's Sam Taylor headed just wide from the resulting corner as the home side threatened. Coleshill's best chance fell to Kitching with half time approaching. Bloxham fed Sutherland down the right and his perfect cross was dummied by Carter leaving Kitching with a clear sight of goal but the captain's measured volley whistled past the post. Coleshill finished the half well and were confident of pressing home their advantage. However, Oadby were also doing their best to break the deadlock and Fisher was out of luck as he cut inside and sent a looping shot over Butler but against the post.

COLESHILL GAZETTE WROTE
Coleshill were expecting more than just a point from this game against second bottom Oadby but in the end were happy with the draw. Oadby had the better of the chances hitting the post twice. Town's only chance fell to Neil Kitching but his measured volley went just wide.
