Saturday 20th December 2008
Midland Football Alliance
Coleshill Town 3 v 1 Coalville Town
Scorers:
Town: Matty Robinson 8, Dave Davies 28, Danny Carter 70.
Coalville: Luke Keen 86.

Make no mistake, this was a big win, probably the best win of the season. Coalville are a good side, they will finish in the top three or four. They played some lovely stuff and kept good posession even when down to ten men but Coleshill were up for this game and outbattled the visitors and were rewarded for their hard work.

Against Sphinx we looked lop sided with two left footers in the wide positions. Lee Darlison was unavailable so a change had to be made so the management decided on two right footers in the wide positions with the only natural left footer, Nathan Puilsciano, on the bench! Stuart Hendrie came into the midfield and with Ben Usher playing his annual game before going back to injury, Danny Carter partnered Matty Robinson up front.

Coleshill started like a house on fire. Stuart Hendrie shot straight at the keeper then Danny Carter jinked his way into the box but this time the keeper saved with his feet. Coalville were shell shocked and went behind on 8 minutes when Carter played a one two with Matty Robinson and Coleshill's leading scorer rolled the ball under the diving keeper and into the net. Coalville slowly started to get a foothold in the game. Chris Butler gathered a Cameron Stuart cross at the second attempt, Danny Haynes saw a header go just over the bar and Luke Keen did well to get into the box but his inviting cross eluded everyone. James Dance had a cross come shot tipped over the bar before Coleshill increased their lead on 28 mins. Ant Hall took a free kick from a long way out. Dave Davies rose highest and sent a looping header over the keeper to sneak into the net for his first goal for Coleshill. Lee Milveld had a shot defected for a corner and Butler saved well from Michael Swan, then Ant Hall slipped allowing Keen to progress but Lee Hunt made a great saving tackle. With less than five minutes to the break Coalville looked the more likely to score the next goal but the game died as a contest as the Referee sent of the visitors keeper Chris Gibson. Gibson looked to be favourite to reach a long ball intended for Danny Carter but the ball took a wicked bounce and Gibson, well out of his area, handled to prevent Carter from a free run at goal. Unfortunate but a definate sending off.

Lee Bloxham hit the bar early in the second half but it was ten man Ville who had the better chances and were it not for a string of Butler saves the final result could have been really close. Butler saved from Thomas Welford, Jamie Silver headed a Craig Noble lob off the line, and Butler saved a Keen header from a corner but Coleshill made the game safe on 70 mins with the simplest of goals. Coalville's stand in keeper hit a weak goal kick straight to Danny Carter who took full advantage of the gift, rounded the keeper and stroked into an empty net. Carter then laid the ball into the path of Stuart Hendrie who managed to lift the ball over the bar from 2 yards out. Butler saved twice more from Noble before Luke Keen finally found a way past Butler with a smart finish on 86 mins. There was still time for Adam Goodby to head over from a corner before the referee brought to an end a very entertaining game.

Three priceless points but Coleshill still remain 13th in the table. The form table however has them at 6th, with three wins and three draws in a six match unbeaten run. Confidence is flowing and everyone is playing with a smile on their face and a big test to come on Boxing day away to in form Boldmere.

Team: Chris Butler, Ant Hall, Dave Davies, Lee Hunt, Jamie Silver (Andy Sutherland), Stuart Hendrie (Ben Porter), Simon Volante, Lee Bloxham (Josh McPherson), Matty Robinson, Danny Carter, James Dance. Subs not used Craig Johnson, Nathan Pulisciano.

And finally a report from the opposition

From Pack Meadow, Coleshill. Attendance: 92

Coalville's 11-game unbeaten run came to an end with a 3-1 defeat at newly-promoted Coleshill Town.

After their recent cup exploits Coalville were looking to make some headway in the league but any chances of victory vanished after a festive farce of a first half.

While Coalville were sluggish out of the blocks their Warwickshire hosts were busy and vibrant, twice forcing Chris Gibson into saves in the opening five minutes.

Coleshill did not have to wait long for the opening goal with strike-pairing Matt Robinson and Danny Carter linking well in the ninth minute to play their way through the statuesque Ravens for top-scorer Robinson to finish well.

Coalville continued to struggle but did cause Coleshill a couple of nervous moments as Danny Haynes headed narrowly over and Chris Butler gratefully clutched the ball after some six-yard box pinball.

By the half hour mark Coalville were two goals down when David Davies met a deep free-kick and saw his attempted header across goal loop in at the far post.

Coalville ended the half strongly and Michael Swan brought out a good save from Butler but a rush of blood by Gibson saw the Ravens goalkeeper handle outside the area, leaving referee Cutts with little alternative but to show a red card.

The second half began with Lee Bloxham sending a 20-yard effort against the crossbar with stand-in goalkeeper Haynes stranded but thereafter it was Coalville who belied their man disadvantage and instead had the better of the play.

Butler produced an excellent double save to keep out Craig Noble and Tommy Welford efforts while goal-line clearances twice denied the Ravens.

After manfully keeping Coalville out Coleshill then added a third goal as Carter took advantage of a miscued Haynes goal-kick to side-foot in.

With the chances continuing to come thick and fast Swan shot narrowly over while Coleshill's Stuart Hendrie somehow shot over with an open goal beckoning.

Butler produced a full-length save to again deny Noble before Coalville did finally force a goal when Luke Keen ran clear in the 86th minute to score his second goal in as many games since joining.

Noble went close to further reducing the arrears in the final minute but after beating Butler to the ball a defender cleared to safety.

Coalville will be looking to start off another good run when Friar Lane and Epworth visit Owen Street for a midday match on Boxing Day.
