COLESHILL HERALD WROTE
Coleshill Town boss Carl Adams hopes his side can make a return to winning ways as they travel to Shifnal Town on saturday - but is keen to stress the importance of time as his new-look side continue to gel.
Coleshill went down 2-1 at home to Stratford Town in midweek but, having been reduced to ten men for the final 25 minutes of the match, Adams was happy with the effort his side put in.
He said "In the first half, we were better and, in the second half, they were better. We showed a lot of desire and a lot of commitment and I felt we were always in the game until having a man sent off. I think there are nothing but positives to take out of it."
Having seen Coleshill take the lead at Pack Meadow on Tuesday night, Stratford forced a second half comeback to take all three points. But despite the result, Adams retains faith in the side which he only started to assemble eight weeks ago.
"I'm bringing in new faces all the time and we're still gelling," he said.
"There are thinhgs we need to work on but, with new faces coming in, it's hard. I think we need to be judged after 15 games, not the opening five. This Coleshill team is only eight weeks old and had a horrendous start with fixtures against five teams that will probably end up being the top five at the end of the season. For sheer effort, I can't fault anyone."

N.B. As for Carl Adams saying we would play the top five in the first five games! Tipton finished 3rd, Stratford 4th, Kirby 11th, Loughborough 13th and Shifnal were relegated.

TOWN COME FROM BEHIND TO SECURE ANOTHER THREE POINTS AT COLESHILL
Coleshill Town - 1 - Freeman 21
Stratford Town - 2 - Lennon 42 Mc Hale 51

Coleshill were the only Aspire MFA side to complete the double over Town last season but Town ensured that there would be no repeat this time around with a convincing second half performance which earned them another away win - their second in eight days.

Rod Brown had to make one enforced change to the starting line-up from the Pilkingtom match. Skipper Barry Woolley was unavailable due to work commitments and so Chris McHale took over the armband and Richard Masters came into the backline for his first Town start.

Among the ex-Town contingent in the Coleshill team were keeper Craig Johnson, midfielder Ryan Scott and Player/Manager Carl Adams who has returned to the Pack Meadow club after finishing last season as Assistant to Micky Moore.

Town were soon on the attack and came close to opening the scoring in only the 5th minute when a Tom Warmer free kick was met with a firm header from Mark Smith which was spilled by Johnson but the referee blew for an infringement as Mark Faulds prepared lash the loose ball home.

Another Warmer free kick from 25 yards out after Danny Lennon had been fouled came back off the Coleshill wall and Lennon then headed straight at Johnson from a Lee Palmer cross as most of the play took place in the home side’s half.

But after bossing the early stages Town fell behind in the 21st minute and it was a goal to give Rod Brown nightmares as Robert Freeman chased what was no more than a hopeful punt towards the Town penalty area. Smith however allowed the ball to bounce and with Chris Jay hesitating in deciding whether to come out or not Freeman took full advantage of the confusion and nipped in to lob the ball into the empty net.

Town were temporarily rocked back and lost much of their earlier fluency as the next quarter of an hour or so became scrappy with a number of niggly fouls, but with half time approaching Town at last began to get on top again and drew level with three minutes to go.

Carl Motteram began the move by gaining possession wide on the left and launching a deep cross into the Coleshill penalty area. Faulds was first to the ball but his shot was blocked and it then fell to the alert Lennon who finished crisply low to the right of the diving Johnson.

And Lennon nearly had another on the stroke of half time when volleying just over after latching onto a half clearance from a Motteram free kick as Town’s confidence came flooding back.

Half Time - Coleshill Town 1 Stratford Town 1

Rod Brown did the same as his namesake Phil famously did with his Hull City side on one occasion last season and kept his players out on the pitch during the interval. This ploy certainly had the desired effect as Town were immediately into their stride from the restart and went ahead in the 51st minute.

Scott - who had been booked barely a minute earlier - rashly brought down Warmer by the left touchline and was perhaps fortunate not to be receive a second yellow card, but Warmer exacted his own revenge by sending over a perfectly flighted free kick and McHale climbed the highest to direct a header well beyond Johnson.

Shortly after Town suffered a blow when Warmer had to go off with a serious looking knee injury, but James Hardie took his place and again showed his potential and promise as Town assumed full control with Coleshill struggling to stay in the game.

Lennon made a searching run down the inside left channel but his low cross flashed across goal with no-one able to supply the final touch, and then on the hour mark Motteram was pulled back on the edge of the penalty area and Simeon Williams’ free kick was deflected off the wall for a corner from which Masters was not far away with a speculative overhead kick.

Williams threatened again soon after with a fiercely struck effort from 12 yards out which was smartly pushed away by Johnson low to his right and from the resulting corner a volley from McHale rattled the crossbar as Town sought the third goal which would surely make the points safe.

No doubt with this in mind Rod Brown made a double substitution in the 66th minute taking off Lennon and Williams and sending on the fresh legs of Kevin Brookes and Joszef Jakab, but it was McHale who again came closest to scoring with a free header from a corner which was inches too high.

In a rare Coleshill attack Jay had to stretch himself to tip over a dipping shot from Porter, before Scott completed a miserable evening by being sent off for dissent as Town continued to dominate possession. Johnson saved comfortably when Hardie tried his luck from distance but in the closing minutes the best chance fell to Jakab when Palmer picked him out with a deep cross from the right.

The normally sharp Hungarian was unmarked virtually on the penalty spot but he was clearly in two minds as to whether to hit it first time or bring it down before finishing and in the end he could only prod it well wide.

So Town had to play out time with just the single goal advantage, but they were emphatically the better side and Rod Brown will surely be hoping for more of the same on Saturday when Biddulph Victoria make the long journey to Knights Lane.
TOWN : Jay, Palmer, Masters, McHale, Smith, Warmer (Hardie 57), Motteram, Faulds, Lennon (Jakab 66), Williams (Brookes 66), Alsop. Unused Subs - Heard & Mole (GK)

Man of the Match - Chris McHale - always assured in defence while at the other end only the crossbar prevented him from adding to his match winning strike

The View From The Dug-Out - Rod Brown reflects on another away success

“ Overall this was very like our performance at Studley where we struggled to assert ourselves at times and conceded another sloppy goal. I kept the lads on the field at half time in order to maintain our tempo and it seemed to work as we totally dominated the second period and were deserving winners in the end. ”
