Highgate United 2 v 1 Coleshill Town

Postby Alan Beckett » Mon Jan 25, 2010 6:59 pm

Saturday 23rd January 2010
Midland Football Alliance
Highgate United 2 v 1 Coleshill Town
Scorers:
Highgate: Tobias Salmon 13, Shawn Salmon 38.
Coleshill: Marvin Johnson 60.

Attendance 55.

After the long break due to the weather both teams looked a little rusty but Coleshill got into their stride in the second half and should have come home with a point, if not all three.

Highgate took advantage of the few chances that came their way with brothers Tobias and Shawn Salmon giving the home team a two goal half time advantage. The first was as a result of Chris Charles and Stuart Hamilton failing to clear from their own byeline when there appeared to be little danger. The second was a better goal but again Coleshill had ample opportunity clear to their lines. At the other end some woefull finishing and some good goalkeeping from ex Coleshill youth teamer Perry Cox kept Town at bay. One Cox save from Marvin Johnson was particularly impressive.

Coleshill dominated the second half but again could not convert their possession into clear cut chances. Marvin Johnson did manage to find the net with a solo run and superb finish that even Cox couldn't get close too but Gate held on for the win, the double for the season, and continued their amazing voodoo hold over Coleshill.

Team:- Craig Johnson, Leyiso Recci, Chris Charles (Luke Williams), Ryan Scott, Stuart Hamilton (capt), Andy Cameron, Ben Porter(Matty Robinson), Jason Lanns, Chris Gumery, Rob Freeman(Jon Powis), Marvin Johnson. Subs not used Rob Evans, Luke Edwards.

NB. This was the second time Tobias Salmon has scored against Coleshill this season. He also scored when playing for Rocester where Coleshill won 5-1. His brother didn't fair as well that day as he was sent off.

Coleshill Town Frustrated By Highgate

TWO first-half goals gave Highgate the edge in a scrappy derby as United completed the double over Coleshill.
Coleshill boss Carl Adams was left to reflect on how his side failed to capitalise on a dominant performance after the break, as they squandered a number of second-half chances.
Coleshill started well and twice early on Chris Gumery posed a threat, but failed to hit the target.
Marvin Johnson also went close before the home side went in front on 13 minutes as Shawn Salmon crossed low into the box for his brother Tobias to put the home side ahead with a close-range tap-in.
Highgate keeper Perry Cox then saved spectacularly to turn Gumery's 15 -yard drive away for a corner and also denied Johnson.
But Highgate doubled their advantage on 38 minutes as Liam Givans set up Shawn Salmon to roll home the second goal from the narrowest of angles.
Coleshill came out for the second half firing on all cylinders and with the introduction of substitute Matty Robinson gave them even more threat.
He fired a 20-yard free-kick just wide, while Gumery finished weakly as he fired straight at Cox.
Coleshill reduced the arrears on the hour mark as Johnson hit an unstoppable 15-yard drive past Cox.
Coleshill finished strongly with Johnson drilling an effort wide of an open goal and then, in stoppage time, Gumery saw a toe-poke cleared off the line by Richard Deeming.
