GR-EIGHT COLESHILL CRUSH CRADLEY

Coleshill Town 8-0 Cradley Town

League tables rarely lie, and this was the case again at Pack Meadow on Tuesday night as Coleshill Town demonstrated the gulf in class between themselves and bottom club Cradley Town as they registered their biggest win of the season in an 8-0 thrashing.
The home side got off to the best possible start inside the first few minutes, Ben Porter winning a penalty which full back Luke Williams converted low to Richard Kennedy’s left to earn the early lead. On form striker Chris Gumery should have doubled the lead five minutes later, but somehow bundled the ball wide from just a couple of yards out. Another opportunity was wasted when first Ben Porter and then Chris Gumery had shots blocked off the line as Coleshill continued to press forward.
The second goal inevitably came just after the half hour, Matty Robinson did well to hold the ball up in the box before playing the ball back to Marvin Johnson, the winger serving up a clinical finish into the bottom corner from the edge of the D.
Johnson would then turn provider on 38 minutes, pulling the ball back from the left wing finding John Powis who netted from 18 yards for his second goal on consecutive Tuesday fixtures. This is just what Coleshill’s first half performance warranted after having complete control over the proceedings.
The second half was more of the same, John Powis lofting a peach of a cross from the right flank over to the far post seven minutes after the restart, Robinson side footing home, just reward for his perfect positioning. This opened the floodgates, Powis setting up Ben Porter to slot past Kennedy just a few minutes later. A sixth was added on the hour mark, Marvin Johnson measuring a cross over to Chris Gumery, his header being tipped into the air by Kennedy, but Cradley’s performance was summed up by an awful slice of misfortune as the ball looped off the goalkeeper’s glove and just underneath the crossbar.
Johnson doubled his personal tally after picking up a loose ball in the opposition’s half. The Cradley defence could only watch on as Johnson stormed into the box before rounding Kennedy to add a seventh. Neil Davis set up the final goal of the evening to cap off a decent debut display coming off the bench, chipping in a cross which Chris Gumery would get the last touch on to further condemn the League’s bottom side to an eleventh straight loss, and their heaviest yet.
Manager Carl Adams praised his team’s recent form, describing it as ‘top six, much improved in the last ten games’. Adams also had positive news on Rob Freeman’s injury sustained at Friar Lane & Epworth. ‘It seems to be more of a back injury than anything. We’ll monitor him over the next couple of weeks.’ This indicates that the injury is much less serious than expected, and was the icing on the cake on an evening of good news for Coleshill Town.

Coleshill Town Line Up: Craig Johnson, Chris Charles, Andy Cameron (Leyiso Recci), Luke Edwards, Luke Williams, Jon Powis, Ben Porter (Neil Davis), Jason Lanns (Rob Evans), Marvin Johnson, Matty Robinson, Chris Gumery.

N.B. Including the League Cup, this is the third time Coleshill have played Cradley and have now scored 17 goals without reply. The last time Coleshill won by 8 clear goals was during the promotion season 2007/08, when Brereton Social were despatched 9-1 (27.10.2007). To better that result, we need to go back to the 2006/07 season when Alveston were beaten 11-0 (17.04.2007).
