ANOTHER BRIDGE CROSSED BY COLESHILL

Coleshill Town ground out a narrow 1-0 victory over Bridgnorth at a bitterly cold Pack Meadow to kick off a busy month of March with a fourth consecutive win.
The opening half hour was one of little quality, with efforts on goal at a premium. Jon Powis did manage to get a shot away for the hosts following Chris Charles' cross from the right hand side, but the midfielder could only send the ball wildly over the goal. Just seven minutes later it was Matty Robinson who should have opened the scoring, but Luke William's ball just evaded the front man at the vital moment.
The Colemen would leave it until the last minute of the half to edge in front, defender Luke Edwards meeting Powis' corner delivery to guide the ball through a sea of blue shirts and into the corner of the visitors' net. The goal was fully deserved, but a second before half time may have proved to be a touch flattering, Neil Davis almost following up the opener, but the ball was sliced over from inside the area.
The Bridgnorth contingent didn't let their heads drop, starting the second half brightly with a barrage of corner kicks early on, but it was Zac Jackson's overhead kick attempt which highlighted the away side's attacking spell, sweetly connecting with an overhead kick which breezed over the crossbar.
Coleshill manager Carl Adams took the opportunity to make a double substitution on the hour mark with the next game just 2 days away, and one of the players introduced, Chris Gumery, almost doubled Town's tally after using his strength to make a good shooting opportunity, but the final product was blocked. Goal scorer Edwards was unlucky not to get a header on target with a quarter of an hour remaining, rising well to head marginally wide of the near post from Rowlands' corner. The latter has some large boots to fill following Marvin Johnson heading back to Solihull Moors to end his loan spell, but Adams was very happy with the winger's debut display, also full of praise of another solid team display which ensured the first of eight games this month went without a hitch.

Team: Craig Johnson, Chris Charles, Ryan Scott, Luke Edwards, Luke Williams, Rob Evans (Leyiso Recci), Ben Porter, Jon Powis, Lawrence Rawlings, Neil Davis (Chris Gumery), Matty Robinson.

N.B. This is only Coleshill's second season in the Alliance, their highest level on the pyramid system in their 116 year history. Last season after a draw at Westfields and a win in their first home game against Studley, Town lay in 4th place. After four games they were 6th but for the remainder of the season they hovered around the mid table mark and finally ended in a creditable 11th. Thursday's win over Bridgnorth took Coleshill to 7th, just reward for their run of five wins in six games. Coleshill are at home to Loughborough on saturday but then have a tough run of games against Tipton, Barwell, Stratford, Alvechurch and Coalville before the first leg of the League Cup Semi Final against Westfields.

Home comforts for in-form Coleshill
Thursday, March 04, 2010, 12:43
COLESHILL Town face back-to-back home games this week as they prepare to 'bring on the big guns'.
The in-form side, from Packmeadow, entertain Bridgnorth tonight (Thursday) and then host Loughborough University on Saturday.
Once those two fixtures are out of the way, Coleshill face a tricky five game run which sees them face the top five in the table.
They travel to Tipton on Wednesday and then face Alvechurch, Stratford, Coalville and Barwell in the coming weeks.
"We are getting prepared for a massive five game streak," said manager Carl Adams.
"But, first and foremost, we must focus on these two home games.
"If we can come out of them with six points it sets us up nicely for the tough spell.
"We are in good heart at the moment. We are all really confident and some of the football we have been playing has been superb.
"We are not conceding and the goals are flying in so we don't fear the top five.
"I can't ask any more of my lads at present."
Coleshill have suffered a setback after ace striker Marvin Johnson was recalled by parent club Solihull.
Adams said: "It's a blow as he's a quality player who will go on to bigger and better things I believe.
"He has been phenomenal for us."
Chris Gumery (hamstring) is also set to miss out against Bridgnorth tonight while Jason Lanns is out through suspension and Stuart Hamilton (back) is also absent.
Adams, meanwhile, has called for more supporters to turn out for the next two home games.
He said: "The gates are disappointing and it would be great for more people in the town to come and get behind us.
"We have cracking facilities here and we are a good team to watch. It would be nice to see some more faces down the club to cheer us on."
