Match Report by Jack Arkell

The points were shared in a six goal thriller in rainy Alvechurch on Tuesday night as a workmanlike performance from Coleshill Town earned them a way back on track following two straight defeats. The Coleshill contingent may feel aggrieved at the final result though, as the visitors let two leads slip over the course of the game.
It was with a stroke of luck that the game went ahead, the boggy pitch resembling that of the surface at Stratford which caused the Colemen's last away game to be postponed. The visitors wouldn't let this affect their early play though, and the ever lively Marvin Johnson proved that his quality is present in all conditions, cutting inside onto his left foot from the right flank before rifling in an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner to open the scoring inside the first ten minutes. This lead should have been increased as Coleshill continued their attacking pressure, but Matty Robinson missed two key opportunities, coming closest when a clearance was sliced by an Alvechurch defender, but the eventual shot could only bounce back off the inside of the post.
Craig Johnson did well to keep the hosts at bay, his handling superb in such treacherous conditions, but he couldn't stop Alvechurch from taking the lead just after the half hour mark. Matthew Gasper was the beneficiary as a cross from the right hand side was headed back across goal for Gasper to nod home for the equaliser, one which was conceded all too easily. The hosts grew in confidence and attacking threat towards the latter stages of the first period, but Craig Johnson stood firm to palm away a curling effort from Callum Gittings as the half came to an end.
Coleshill came out of the blocks with the more intent once again, with winger Jon Powis having a penalty claim dismissed following a surging run into the box which was cut short as he was hauled down. It would be a Coleshill player to be recorded in the referee's book just minutes later though as Recci was cautioned as a result of a cynical foul on the left wing. The resulting free kick produced a corner, in which 'Church would take the lead against the run of play. The ball was swung into the box, a game of pinball ensued which allowed Neil Barnfield to hammer home into the bottom of the net for his third goal in five games.
The hosts' joy would be dampened on 66 minutes through another fruitful set piece, as Marvin Johnson scored the most bizarre goal of the night. When Johnson placed the ball down 40 yards from goal, surely his last intention would have been to have a shot on goal, but his delivery evaded everyone, floating directly into the net as goalkeeper Ian Kimberley was caught off guard. The latter would apply just a few minutes later as Matty Robinson once again spurned a great chance, capitalising on a weak defensive header to loop an effort just over from 20 yards after spotting Kimberley off his line.
The third goal would inevitably come for the Greens as the visitors marched forward as a team, Gumery helping to provide Ben Porter a clean run into the penalty area, where the midfielder would happily run with the ball before leathering the ball low into the goal, taking the lead once again for Coleshill. There was to be one last twist in the tale on 73 minutes though, the productive Rolfe sliding a ball into Naveed Arshad who slotted past Craig Johnson for yet another equaliser.
As the sands of time ran out, Alvechurch looked most likely to add to an already bulging scoreboard, but Craig Johnson stood up to everything thrown at him, the three goals conceded by the 'keeper not representing his superb performance.

Team: Craig Johnson, Leyiso Recci, Chris Charles, Luke Edwards, Luke Williams, Jon Powis (Steffano Aronandi), Ben Porter, Andy Cameron, Marvin Johnson, Chris Gumery, Matty Robinson.

Booked- Recci, Robinson.
