COLEMEN PROVE THEY HAVE PLENTY IN RESERVE

Coalville Town recorded a fifth consecutive league win over Coleshill Town on Saturday, as Carl Adams sent out a second string team out for the visitors who had an eye on the crucial League Cup Semi-final 1st leg on Tuesday. This scratch team performed well though, with Adams himself saying how he thought the score line was an ‘unfair reflection’ on the game, as he was ‘really impressed by the young lads’ who were fielded to ensure no injuries were picked up before Tuesday evening’s crunch cup tie.
The visitors started the game fairly well, but their inability to turn a bright start into a goal scoring opportunity was punished on the ten minute mark, when Anthony Carney crossed in from the left hand side for Matt Gardner to tap in for his eighth goal in five matches after finding himself in acres of space. Coalville continued to press, Martin Thompson managing to burst through on goal twice, but first Leyiso Recci followed by ‘keeper Craig Johnson blocking the eventual efforts from the Ravens’ top goal scorer.
Coleshill seemed content to soak up their opponents’ pressure up until the half hour mark, which marked their first real opportunity of the game, Lewis Moss cutting inside from the right hand side, swinging in a bouncing cross which evaded everyone. This pattern continued as attacking possession failed to correlate with shots on goal, that was until Rob Evans found the side netting with a close range effort.
The half time whistle gave Carl Adams a chance to re-organise his team, and would also reshuffle the pack, taking experienced campaigners Jason Lanns and Luke Williams off in favour of yet more youth in the form of Kieran Doyle and Steve Hakner. Another bright opening ensued, Lewis Moss striking a post before the impressive Barry Fitzharris headed wide from a corner. Once again, as in the first half, any attacking impetus built up faded away due to the unfamiliarity of the line up. Coalville once again made Coleshill pay on seventy four minutes, Lewis Dodd volleying into the bottom corner from a set piece to grab his second goal in as many games against Coleshill and wrap up the points for the home side.
Jermaine Gordon was introduced by the Ravens, and almost made an immediate impression, dinking the ball fractionally over the crossbar. His impact wouldn’t end there, as the big centre forward would have a hand in the third goal, scored six minutes from time. Gordon held the ball up well in the penalty area, laying Martin Thompson off for a shot which stung the palms of Craig Johnson, but the follow up was buried by Anthony Carney to secure his personal league double over Coleshill, having scored at Pack Meadow earlier in the season. Martin Thompson put even more gloss onto the score line on eighty nine minutes, Gordon’s effort blocked by Johnson, likewise with Thompson’s but the ball managed to trickle over the line off of Johnson’s glove, Coalville claiming the three points in a result which although is disappointing for the Coleshill faithful will not mean too much in the long run.

Team: Craig Johnson, Leyiso Recci (Jon Powis), Steffano Aronandi, Jason Lanns (Keiran Doyle), Luke Williams (Steve Hakner), Rob Evans, Barry Fitzharris, Andy McDowell, Richard Kavanagh, Lewis Moss, Giovanni Fineschi.
