WHAT THE PAPERS SAID

SUNDAY MERCURY
A last minute winner from Steve Hakner wrapped up Coleshill Town's 3-2 win at Malvern Town.

N.B. Coleshill consolidated ninth place in the league and with six games to play they need seven points to better last seasons 63 points. They have already passed the 70 goals scored last term with Steve Hakner's late winner goal number 72. Coleshill finished 11th in their first season in the Alliance but with games in hand on teams above and below, a ninth place finish should be within their grasp and with a bit of luck, a top six place is still achievable.

Not for the first time Malvern threw all three points away in time added on at the end of the game.

Report by Marg Scott

Malvern were in control for most of the game but failed to convert enough of their chances and gave away silly goals in lapses of concentration.
Malvern’s first chance came in the 2nd minute when Bryan Craven played a through ball to Flavien Chambaud who shot just wide.
In the 20th minute the ball was played out to Troy Wood who worked his way to the byline and crossed in a low ball which Josh Brunger hit , parried by a defender fell to Flavien Chambaud whose shot was parried by the keeper fell to Paul Edwards whose shot was cleared off the line by another defender and eventually cleared.
Malvern did take the lead in the 24th minute when a good one two between Flavien Chambaud and Josh Brunger and Flavien fired the ball home past keeper Craig Johnson.
Six minutes later the ball was played up the right to Josh Brunger who rounded the keeper but his shot was cleared off the line by a defender scrambling back.
Coleshill first shot on goal came in the 31 minute when Jon Powis turned a Malvern defender and his shot hit the upright. Six minutes later following a corner Chris Gummery headed over.
Malvern went in a half time worthy of their lead.
Coleshill started the second half brighter and in the 52nd minute Matty Johnson turned his defender but he shot straight at Alex Hards in the Malvern goal. Four minutes later they were awarded a free kick on the right and the ball was crossed into the box and Chris Gumery hit the crossbar and then Malvern cleared the ball.
Coleshill got their equaliser in the 60th minute when the ball was played upfield to Chris Gumery who fired home.
Malvern retaliated and in the 62 minute were awarded a free kick just outside the area. Troy Woods fired the ball home, hitting a defenders hand on the way, and the referee rightly awarded a goal. However Malvern were so please to get the lead back that they switched off and within a minute Coleshill had equalised again when central defender Benjamin Porter broke free and fired home.
The game seemed to be heading for a draw but in time added on Coleshill grabbed the winner with the ball bobbling about after being parried by both Ales Hards and defenders and the post eventually fell to substitute Steve Hakner three yards out to slot the ball home and deny Malvern the points their play deserved .
