THE OLD ENEMY STRIKES BACK

A disappointing night for Coleshill Town saw Carl Adams' side throw a lead away in a scrappy encounter with Westfields who recorded their fifth away win of the season. The Herefordshire side no doubt took satisfaction in winning at Pack Meadow for the second successive season following a League Cup Semi-final victory last season.
It was an unspectacular first half which passed without incident, apart from Liam Givans' long range effort which took a lick of paint off the crossbar as Jamie Moore's dive was one of despair. Neither Danny Carter or Richard Gregory managed to find the target with their shots as a dull opening half hour did little to entertain the crowd. Gregory missed a golden chance to take the lead towards the end of the first half though, as he collected Moore's fluffed clearance, but couldn't make the most of the 'keeper being off his line, directing his shot wide of the gaping goal. The hosts built up some decent momentum right at the end of the half, as Chris Gumery had an effort blocked off the line from a corner opportunity.
The big frontman would remain in the spotlight in the second half, seeing a vicious shot parried wide, before he finally grabbed a goal to end his barren run. Forward thinking full back Steven Hakner put the ball into the mix from the left hand side, as Gumery towered above the defence to head home from six yards. The jubilations of the green and whites said it all, as Coleshill took a foothold in the match. However, a prompt comeback from Westfields saw Richard Kear collect a cross which Leyiso Recci had misjudged, before slotting beyond Chris Jay to balance the score.
An equally rapid response by Coleshill saw Gregory work Moore with a decent header, before a new strike force of Matty Robinson and Dean Baker were introduced. Despite the new blood, it would be Westfields who took the lead through another soft goal. Darren Andrews held possession of the ball on the edge of the penalty area, holding off two defenders before steering his shot into the far corner, Jay beaten once again after recieving little help from a sloppy defence. Liam Givans tried an effort from range as Coleshill began the hunt for an equaliser, and there was disarray in Westfields' camp as Hakner's inswinging corner delivery beat Moore but dropped the wrong side of the far post. Great character was shown by the Greens as a second goal was added five minutes before time, a surging run from Recci teeing up Dean Baker to prod home for a poacher's finish. Relief filled the air, as it looked as if a point would be taken from the tough fixture.
This would have been the case, had it not been for a touch of class from Louis Loader in the claret and blue of Westfields. The player's long range effort was one of real beauty, as the ball arched right into the very ceiling of the net, Chris Jay having no chance at saving the top corner bound shot. It was fitting that such a top quality goal should be the winner, but a post mortem must be carried out into how Coleshill lost a game in which they had so much of the territory.

Team: Chris Jay, Leyiso Recci, Jason Lanns, Luke Edwards, Steve Hakner, Jon Powis, Liam Givans, Rob Freeman (Neil Kitching), Richard Gregory (Matty Robinson), Chris Gumery (Dean Baker), Danny Carter.
