COALVILLE A GOLD MINE FOR TRAVELLING TOWN
Coleshill Town inflicted the first defeat of the season on Coalville Town on Tuesday evening as a workmanlike away performance sealed three big away points.
The game lacked any real quality, but what it lacked in free flowing football it gained in great importance to both sides. For this reason it was a great relief for the visiting team when a penalty was awarded for a handball by Ryan Robbins after blocking Andy Cameron's aerial ball. A confident penalty conversion was expected and delivered by Danny Carter who is currently in red hot form, as Coleshill took control in the 18th minute following a bright start in the opening stages. Coalville, angered by the decision to award the penalty, were shaken by the goal, and couldn't manage to channel their frustration into anything positive. The closest they came in the first half was when Matt Moore embarked on an intelligent run, cutting inside within the penalty area before seeing his deflected shot end up the wrong side of the post.
Unfortunately, the first period was also notable for an injury to Coleshill midfielder Andy Cameron, as a horrific yet unpunished challenge added another injury worry to Carl Adams' growing list of casualties. The manager's concerns wouldn't end there though, as both Jon Powis and Loyiso Recci recieved yellow cards from the referee as tempers flared. The stop-start pattern to the game benefitted Coleshill more than their opponents, as they already had a lead to protect. This lead was almost doubled when Steven Hakner recieved the ball at his feet after goalkeeper Sean Bowles had fumbled a cross. The resulting shot however was put wide under pressure.
As the pace of the game disintegrated, there were few chances to go around, and so it was key that they were not frittered, like Danny Haynes did when he blazed a shot high over Craig Johnson's bar. Callum Woodward also failed to find the target, skewing a volley wide as time began to run out. Coleshill's back line was in particularly uncharitable mood though, ensuring that chances stayed at a premium. With ten minutes on the clock, Coleshill made sure of the momentus away victory with the best move of the entire game. Liam Givans, Danny Carter and finally Matty Robinson crafted the chance, with the latter's ball across the box taking the last touch off of defender Leigh Everitt who was in the shadow of Dean Baker, the ball rippling the net to signify the end of the home side's chances of recording a ninth League win this season. Adam Goodby saw a red card after the final whistle had blown as the bitter home players protested some of the key refereeing decisions over the course of the game.
The result takes Coleshill up to ninth, though games in hand mean that the comfortable top half position may be bettered once the extra games have been played, with a home fixture against Dunkirk next on Coleshill's radar.
Team: Craig Johnson, Jon Powis, Luke Edwards, Leyiso Recci, Steve Hakner (Neil Kitching), Andy Cameron (Daniel Dineen), Liam Givans, Rob Freeman, Danny Carter, Dean Baker, Chris Gumery (Matty Robinson).
Booked- Powis, Recci.

Coalville Town's blip continued with 2-0 defeat against Coleshill Town which was made all the more frustrating by a poor display from the Ravens.
Manager Adam Stevens made four changes from the side which lost at Barwell with captain Ashley Brown, vice-captain Cameron Stuart and Anthony Carney all missing out due to injury while Rhett Heister dropped to the bench. Sean Bowles, Danny Haynes, Callum Woodward and Ryan Robbins came into the side.
Coalville started the brighter of the two sides and Matt Moore soon called Craig Johnson into action with the Coleshill goalkeeper doing well to turn the shot wide.
Coleshill had barely threatened when they were gift-wrapped the opening goal in the 16th minute by the kind of calamitous officiating which the Midland Alliance has become notorious for. Robbins flung himself in front of 8's drilled shot with the ball first hitting the Coalville player's leg, then the ground and finally bouncing up onto his arm, all in a split-second. Referee Pearce set the tone for a sub-standard performance by curiously deciding this was a deliberate handball and Danny Carter side-footed in the resulting penalty.
Within minutes of that incident Coalville were further incensed when James Dodd had a two-handed shove in the back in the Coleshill penalty area but this time Pearce decided not to award a penalty.
Moore was then again denied by another excellent Johnson save with Coalville unfortunate to go in behind at the break.
Unfortunately for Coalville their second half performance was as poor as anything they have produced this season with their slow tempo and hopeful long balls unlikely to cause any teams problems.
Adam Goodby make an excellent goal-saving tackle while Dean Baker twice finished weakly as Coalville became increasingly disjointed.
The decisive second goal eventually came in the 80th minute when Bowles clawed out a Matt Robinson shot but Leigh Everitt, under pressue from a Coleshill player, could only help the ball over his own goal-line.
David Fisher came on for a late cameo for Coalville and at least injected some life into the Ravens with some positive running, only another good Johnson save denying him a fine solo effort.
The final whistle signalled Coalville's first league defeat of the season and Pearce rubbed salt into the wounds by then sending off stand-in captain Goodby to cap-off a dismal showing.
Coalville will be desperate to get back to anything like their best form on Saturday (2nd October, 3pm) when they host Stratford Town in the FA Vase.
