Malvern Town 3 v 0 Coleshill Town
Leigh Downing (43)
Jamie Insall (73)
Dorian Colling (89)

Attendance 59.

Malvern Town had been at the foot of the table but a 3-0 victory over Coleshill Town eased their worries. Leigh Downing handed them the lead before the visitors were reduced to ten men during half time when a scuffle in the tunnel saw Dean Baker red carded. Malvern made their extra man count in the second period through Insall and Dorian Collin.

Report by Jack Arkell
Despite seemingly having got over their FA cup hangover with a win against Halesowen midweek, Coleshill Town slumped to a disappointing defeat away at Malvern on Saturday, giving the home side their first league victory of the season.

Undesirable scenes at half time in the tunnel lead to a host of bookings, with Coleshill striker Dean baker seeing the red card. While this didn't help matters for the visitors, it was a tired performance on the whole from a small squad under an intense fixture schedule.

Attractive football was a staple of the opening quarter of an hour as both sides looked to come out of the traps quickly, but neither outfit could manufacture any decent openings. Coleshill Manager Carl Adams would have been aggrieved at a couple of decisions by the referee, first to deny his team a penalty when Jamie Insall blocked a shot on the line with an arm seemingly used and second when Matty Robinson was brought down in the area. Despite goalkeeper Craig Humphries being called into action twice shortly after, the Green's never really managed to channel this frustration and paid the price soon after.

Malvern ventured forward confidently, and were unlucky when Dorian Collin's shot travelled across the face of goal. Insall set the forward up once again a few minutes later, but Craig Johnson was able to catch the shot which lacked any real measure of venom.

The hosts struck just a couple of minutes before the interval though, as Insall provided the centre for Leigh Downing to fire home from the edge of the area, as Malvern opened the scoring, their earlier warning signs having went unheeded.

With Coleshill coming out for the second half a man lighter, Malvern looked to continue their tempo in an attempt to seal the game. Craig Johnson came to the rescue once again, blocking Christopher Comes' effort, with Coleshill restricted to attacking set pieces. One such moment came from a corner, with the ball falling kindly for Chris Gumery whose shot was pushed away by Humphries, with the custodian reacting quickly to save Matty Robinson's follow up as it continued to look like it wasn't to be for the visitors.

Another spell of pressure by Malvern saw Collins find the side netting with an effort, with the increasing feeling that a second goal would wrap up the points. On 73 minutes, the feat was accomplished, as Duncan Edwards picked out Insall perfectly with a pass for the latter to side foot past Johnson for the second goal of the game, and one which Coleshill would never recover from.

Waiting for the final whistle to blow, Craig Johnson's guard was broken yet again, as Dorian Collin surged down the right flank, travelling into the box before smashing an unstoppable hit past Johnson to put the game beyond doubt, ensuring that their first win in the league this season was as stylish as it was important.

For Coleshill, it is a case of picking themselves up before another league fixture, this time against Stratford Town.

Team: Craig Johnson, Chris Gumery, Dean Baker, Matty Robinson. (Confirmed) Leyiso Recci, Luke Edwards, Jason Lanns, Steve Hakner, Daniel Dineen, Jon Powis, Liam Givans. Subs Neil Kitching, Barry Fitzharris. (Probable but not confirmed).
