COLESHILL HERALD WROTE
No goals but plenty to be pleased about

COLESHILL battled out a goalless draw with Ellesmere on Tuesday night.

Despite the lack of goals, it proved an enjoyable game played in the right spirit with lots of crunching tackles and effort from both teams.

Coleshill had two good early chances but a fantastic save from Dave Maguire in the Ellesmere goal denied Steve Hakner after he had hit a rasping shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Then Richard Gregory thundered a shot against the crossbar after good work from Danny Carter.

Coleshill were exerting tremendous pressure on the Ellesmere defence but were unable to open the scoring.

On 15 minutes, an injury to Chris Charles forced Carl Adams to reorganise his defence and this took the impetus out of the Coleshill play and allowed Ellesmere to get into the game.

Will Stannage was then called into action as Ellesmere centre forward Sean Butler went through one on one.

Liam Mansell was immense in the heart of the Coleshill defence and marshalled his team-mates with growing authority as the Colemen looked comfortable under a great deal of pressure.

The second half saw much of the same with good play from both teams.

Coleshill sub Nathan McBean was unlucky not to get on to the end of a great cross from Carter.

Gregory and Sam Wilson saw shots sail over the bar and Stannage pushed a shot on to the bar in the dying seconds at the other end.
