Postby Alan Beckett » Mon Mar 19, 2012 11:04 am

Saturday 17th March 2012
Midland Alliance
Coleshill Town 0 v 3 Stratford Town
Scorers:
Stratford: Chris Murphy 7, 40, James Travis 11.
Attendance: 60.

Team: Chris Jay, Jason Lanns, Craig Gaziewski, Chris Charles, Liam Mansell (Steve Hakner), Sam Wilson, Chris Laite, Barry Fitzharris (David Brush), Allando Davis, Danny Carter, Carl Adams (Jack Jeyes). Sub not used Anton Astley.

A disastrous first 45 minutes saw Coleshill three goals down and no way back. Stratford had scored through a Chris Murphy double and a James Travis strike but it could and should have been more as Coleshill capitulated. Two half time substitutes saw a Town re-shuffle and the return of David Brush who had been instrumental in Coleshill's Mid Com Championship winning side of 2007/08 before moving to Ireland. Brush made 96 appearances in total for Coleshill scoring 41 goals and slotted seamlessly into the midfield with some deft touches but those around him are a shadow of that title winning side. Coleshill did regain some pride in the second half with a goalless draw and had the better of the chances as Stratford eased off with the points in the bag. Chris Laite, Danny Carter and debutant Jack Jeyes all had goalbound efforts blocked or saved by a resolute visiting defence but it was all to easy for Stratford as Coleshill descend closer to the bottom three.

SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE Total Rubbish
Studley recorded a vital 2-1 win at home to Coleshill Town and Two goals from Chris Murphy and a James Travis strike steered Stratford Town to a 3-0 win over basement club Willenhall Town.
NB. Think they got mixed up with last weeks results.

COLESHILL HERALD WROTE
Town slump again
COLESHILL were let down by a poor first-half showing as they lost out to Stratford.

Carl Adams' men were dismal in the opening 45 minute, gifting Stratford two early goals through Murphy and Travis.

The Colemen responded after that but failed to take their chances and were punished when Murphy added a third.

COLESHILL PROGRAMME NOTES WROTE
Coleshill were very poor in the first half of this game gifting Stratford two early goals through Murphy and Travis with absolutely shocking defending and it appeared that Coleshill had done their usual trick of giving the opposition a two goal lead before waking up. We then saw Coleshill produce two or three clear cut chances which they failed to convert before Murphy added to his tally to extend Stratford's lead to three.

The second half saw Stratford sit back on their lead which allowed Coleshill to put some decent passages of play together.

Overall this was a poor diplay from Coleshill who, if they want to stay in this league, must do better.

TOWN MAKE IT A HAT-TRICK OF 3-0 WINS
Coleshill Town - 0

Stratford Town - 3 - Murphy (2) 7 & 40 Travis 11
Town continued their recent upsurge in results with a third 3-0 win in the last eight days as they followed up their wins over Willenhall Town and Atherstone Town with an equally comfortable success against Coleshill Town at Pack Meadow.

As in their previous two games Morton Titterton's side did all the damage early on with on song midfielder Chris Murphy and young striker James Travis putting them two up inside eleven minutes, and Murphy adding the third - his fifth in this three game spell - five minutes before the break.

Town's starting line-up showed just one change from Tuesday evening at Atherstone with Michael Hayden returning to right back in place of Tom Dyke, while Coleshill's team included ex-Town keeper Chris Jay and forward Danny Carter.

The Pack Meadow men have been pretty much in freefall of late having taken only four points from their previous eight games, and Town made sure that their depressing run was going to continue as they hurried to a two goal lead.

Mark Faulds gave an indication of what was to come with a crisp shot on the tturn in only the fifth minute which was well held by Jay, but two minutes later the former Town number 1 had little chance as Town went ahead.

Hayden began the move with a crossfield ball to Mykel Beckley on the left who turned past Jason Lanns before squaring it into the path of Murphy and he drilled it low past Jay from virtually on the penalty spot.

Soon after Town were two up, and this time the busy Cameron Jones set up the chance with an inviting cross from the right. Jay unwisely left his line to come and collect but was beaten to it by Travis who glanced his header into the empty net.

Coleshill were struggling to get into the game, and it was only the lively Chris Laite on the right who was making any impact for the home side. As the half reached its midway point he floated over a cross which was fired narrowly wide by Allando Davis and on the half hour mark he released Carter down the inside right channel but the diminutive front runner scuffed his shot and it was an easy save for Richard Morris.

Town were bossing the midfield possession and Jay saved well from Travis low down to his right before Town had a real chance to go three ahead in the 36th minute when Hayden was brought down some 20 yards out. Beckley though could not repeat the accuracy of his clinical strike from an almost identical position at Atherstone on Tuesday as he fired the free kick inches wide of Jay's left hand post.

The third goal was however only delayed, and after Sam Wilson's effort from distance had been safely held by Morris Town broke quickly down to the other end. Slick control from Travis created the space for the cross which was only headed out by Chris Charles as far as Murphy on the edge of the penalty area, and he promptly hit an unstoppable volley into the top corner of the net for his 14th League goal of the season.

Half Time - Coleshill Town 0 Stratford Town 3

Coleshill made two substitutions at the start of the second half, but there was little change to the pattern of play with Town comfortably in control.

After 15 minutes Travis charged through to shoot against the covering Charles and from the subsequent corner Andy Gregory shot narrowly wide. Shortly after Jay had to sprint off his line to kick clear as Beckley chased down a long ball from Faulds, and from another corner with twenty minutes to go Travis saw a close range effort bounce over the bar.

To their credit Coleshill kept going with Steve Hackner shooting straight at Morris followed by Carter springing the offside trap down the left to set up Laite whose fiercely struck shot was blocked by Gregory.

Morris then got down low to his right to save from Jack Jeyes before Town moved up a gear to finish the match on the attack.

With five minutes left Jamie Molyneux whipped over a cross from the right but no Town player was close enough to take advantage, and into added time only Jay's legs kept out a close range Molyneux effort followed by Stuart Herlihy's header from a Faulds free kick drifting tantalisingly wide.

So another three points, another three goals and another clean sheet although all against bottom six sides. Nevertheless it's looking as if Town will at least be finishing the campaign with some sort of flourish.

The View From The Dug-Out - Morton Titterton is pleased to see the winning sequence continue

"We were comfortable winners and it was a confident team performance. The frustrating aspect is our position in the League table, and all we can do now is make sure that we finish the season as positively as we can."
