Match Report
Saturday 20th September 2003
Midland Combination Premier Division
Southam United 2 v 2 Coleshill Town
Scorers: Dave Johnson, Lee Dempster.

Southam have been unable to play on their pitch so far this season due to drainage work and this game was in doubt until Friday when a league representative inspected the pitch and deemed it playable. Farmers ploughed field, Yes, football field, No. At best it made playing football difficult, at worst it was dangerous but it was they same for both teams so it was time to get on with it.

Again Coleshill struggled to field a team and both Gormley and Morbey had to take their place in the line up. Coleshill took an early lead through Lee Dempster and looked well capable of recording an impressive win but on 25 minutes that all changed when suddenly they were down to nine men. A tussle broke out between Mitchell Thompson and the Southam No 5. You know the kind, hand bags at ten paces, the kind of fracase that happens in every game. Enter the Ass Referee, flag in air. Thompson shown red card. Lee Dempster, frustrated enters the fray and confronts No5. Ass Ref 2 raises his flag and off goes Dempster. What about No5 I here you ask, Yellow card because he?s not such a bad lad after all. Coleshill, backs to the wall play Dave Morbey up front on his own and match Southam chance for chance. The home team level the scores and all looks lost for the visitors but No, with twenty to go Dave Johnson scores to put Coleshill in front and Tony Gormley hits the woodwork. 10 to go now and keeper Danny Moseley, whilst attempting to kick the ball from his hands, walks out of the box still holding the ball. Flag raising Ass Ref 1 to the rescue. Moseley yellow carded but manages to turn the free kick away for a corner. The luck finally runs out as Southam score from the corner to record their first point of the season, and everyone goes home happy, well almost everyone!

Team:- Danny Moseley, Lee Colvin, Frank Woodburn, Craig Risdill, Chris Gray, Dave Morbey(Scott Wilson), Tony Gormley, Adam Whyte, Dave Johnson, Mitchell Thompson, Craig Davies. Sub not Scott Gormley.
