Coleshill Town 1 v 2 Massey Ferguson

Postby Alan Beckett » Mon Sep 29, 2003 7:58 pm

SATURDAY 27th SEPTEMBER 2003
MIDLAND COMBINATION PREMEIR
COLESHILL TOWN 1 v 2 MASSEY FERGUSON
Scorer: Lee Dempster.

Coleshill welcolmed back Craig Davies after the inform striker had missed the draw against bottom club Southam, for the visit of Massey Ferguson. Carl Smith also played although still carrying an injury and two new signings made their debut. Paul McColagn made the step up from Sunday football and David Jackson signed from Bedworth United.

The team talk in the dressing room was all about making it difficult for visiting teams to take any points away from Packmeadow, but Massey were gifted the lead with less than 2 minutes on the clock. As has happened on numerous occasions this season a static defence watched as former Coleshill Town player and now Massey Manager Paul Charnley gleefully accepted the chance to shoot past Danny Moseley in the Town goal. Things got worse when influential midfielder Carl Smith had to leave the field in obvious discomfort. The remainder of the half was mainly uneventful and forgettable. Craig Davies had a shot easily saved. A clearance from the Massey keeper rebounded of Paul McColagn and went inches wide. Massey hit the post in a rare attack and Jackson struck a free kick just over the bar.
The second half started as the first had ended but Coleshill got back onto level terms on the hour mark. Danny Moseley made a good save and immediately launched the ball forward, Craig Davies cleverly held up play and then fed Lee Dempster who struck a shot across the keeper into the far corner of the net. Coleshill started to push for a winner and when the Massey keeper had to leave the field after a clash with Davies, all looked well. But Town failed to test the stand in keeper and it proved costly. In time added on Massey broke away and Tony Gormley challenged a forward in the box. As Massey screamed for a penalty the Referee waved play on. The game kept going as the official found time from who knows where, and on 99 minutes the visitors secured all three points. A long cross field pass found Steve Swan in space and he had time to pick his spot to shoot passed Moseley. Twelve extra minutes were played in the second half before the Referee finally called time.

Team:- Danny Moseley, Frank Woodburn, David Jackson, Craig Risdill (Tony Gormley), Chris Gray, Andy Hayward (Lee Maclean), Carl Smith (Neil Anderson), Paul McColagn, Lee Dempster, Craig Davies, Mitchell Thompson..
