MIDLAND COMBINATION PREMIER DIVISION
SATURDAY 7th FEBRUARY 2004
MEIR K.A. 4 v 2 COLESHILL TOWN
Scorers: Pete Hall 2.
Coleshill made the long trip to Stoke full of confidence following the win over Marconi. Town matched that display with some excellent football but somehow managed to come away with nothing and conceded two late goals in the same manner as Brocton and Highgate. Beadle stuck with the team that defeated Marconi with Chris Davies taking Chris Gee's place on the bench after returning from illness.
Coleshill were behind as early as the fifth minute but the penalty awarded for handball was harsh as the ball struck Adrian Walker rather than a deliberate action. Pete Hall, after going so long without a goal, was quick to double his season's tally as he headed home from a corner for the equaliser. Simon Bradbury, who has looked impressive since his return to the club, was caught in possession and Meir took advantage to go into the break 2-1 up. Coleshill started to dominate and Pete Hall struck again to equalise for the second time. Both sides would have settled for a draw but Coleshill looked the more likely to take all three points. Hall, who could have finished the afternoon with four or five, hit the bar then had a penalty appeal turned down. Mitchell Thompson also had a good chance but the forward is struggling infront of goal and is way short of his usual tally for the season. The home teams keeper was having a blinder and stood between Coleshill and victory but as seems to happen on a regular basis when Town play, everything changed in the last couple of minutes and time added on. Meir broke way in a rare attack to take the lead on 90 minutes and two minutes later gave the scoreline a completely false look with a fourth from the penalty spot but this one was not disputed by a now dejected Coleshill team.
Team:- Craig Jones, Steve Lees, Frank Woodburn, Simon Bradbury, Derek Wilkes, Adrian Walker (Danny Nixon), Carl Smith, Lee Dempster, Mitchell Thompson, Pete Hall (Chris Davies), Kevin Wagstaff. Sub not used Ashley Downer.
