Coleshill Town 1 v 5 Romulus

MIDLAND COMBINATION PREMIER DIVISION
SATURDAY 10TH APRIL 2004
COLESHILL TOWN 1 V 5 ROMULUS
Score: Lee Dempster.

For the second home game in a row Coleshill played host to title contenders but unlike two weeks ago when Leamington left Pack Meadow knowing they had been in a game, Town capitulated against Romulus and could easily have seen the ball hit the back of the net many more times than just the five embarrassing efforts the visitors easily inflicted on the home team.

For the final home game of the season, and only two away games to come, Manager Mick Beadle was again without a full strength squad. Regulars, Downer, Woodburn, Walker, Hall and Wagstaff were all unavailable and Simon Bradbury left the field injured, after only 15 minutes. Romulus had already taken a strangle hold on the game by the time youth team player James Butterworth replaced Bradbury, with two goals. Tyrone Fagan scored his first of three when the attackers outnumbered defenders and Fagan gleefully tucked away his chance after only nine minutes. Prolific scorer Matty Robinson scored the second after 14 minutes from eight yards out. Coleshill's only high point of the afternoon saw Lee Dempster score direct from a corner on 35 minutes but two minutes later former Town player Jamie Shipway scored the goal of the game, a left foot screamer from 30 yards, to effectively kill the contest. Luckily for Coleshill, Romulus took their foot off the gas and only scored twice more. The normally reliable Town keeper Craig Jones got tangled up with his defence and presented the ball to Fagan who ran the ball into an empty net just after half time and the visiting forward completed his hat trick with a far post header on 68 minutes.

The end of the season can't come quick enough for Beadle who is confident he can bring players to the club in the summer who will lift the team up to at least mid table next year.

Team:- Craig Jones, Jamie Cartwright, Scott Beadle (Chris Gee), Simon Bradbury (James Butterworth), Des Wilkes, Danny Nixon, Carl Smith, Steve Lees, Mitchell Thompson, Craig Davies, Lee Dempster (Gary Falconbridge).
