COLESHILL HERALD
Stafford stun Coleshill with last gasp goal
COLESHILL produced a disappointing performance as they slipped out of the FA Vase in the qualifying round.

The visitors took the lead after 10 minutes as Francis Dacres couldn't believe his luck as he stepped forward completely unchallenged and hit a sweet, low left foot shot that keeper James Pace was unable to save.

Three minutes later, Coleshill strung together some passes involving Danny Carter, Phil Gayle, Barry Fitzharris and Dior Angus.

The latter set up the onrushing Keenan Rosser and the full back, on loan from Solihull Moors, shot across the keeper into the net.

Coleshill huffed and puffed but it was Stafford who were starting to get a strangle hold on the game.

James Cartwright then hit a dipping shot from 35 yards that was unlucky not to find the net but instead hit the bar.

Then a poor back pass was intercepted by Chris Gumery who hit the side netting with his effort.

But the striker was back again minutes before the break to give the visitors the lead as he got in behind a static defence and finished well.

Coleshill improved in the second half and equalised on 50 minutes.

A long, long ball from a free kick was missed by everyone and Angus managed to get a touch to send the ball into the net.

Craig Gasiewski had a great chance to take the lead but instead of hitting the ball first time he tried to take a touch and the chance was gone.

Then, in the dying minutes, as the game drifted towards extra time, Rosser and youth team keeper Pace were involved in a miscommunication and Gumery nipped in and tapped the ball into an empty net for the winner.

REPORT
The prize fund from the early rounds of the FA Cup and FA Vase are the life blood of non-league clubs. To win a couple of games in either or both competitions can bank roll a club for the season or increase the budget to bring in better players. So every club takes these games very seriously. The dream tie is to be drawn against a lower league team at home. Coleshill were drawn against West Midlands Premier side AFC Wulfrunians in the FA Cup and were dumped out after a replay. On Saturday, in the Vase, Coleshill were up against Stafford Town who currently lie in mid-table of the Midland Combination, definitely a winnable tie. The problem is, to win any game you have to first turn up and Coleshill just didn't!!! Could it have been that Stafford were a better team than anyone expected, Eh! No! They were awful but were the better of the two teams as Coleshill were woeful!!!
Yes they had a couple of players missing, Sam Wilson the most high profile absentee, a very good player but wasted at left full back, but Coleshill should have had enough in their locker to see off Stafford, especially after a resounding win over Coventry Sphinx, but when the visitors took the lead after 10 minutes, it gave them belief and they fought for every ball. Francis Dacres couldn't believe his luck as he stepped forward completely unchallenged and hit a sweet low left foot shot that keeper James Pace got to but couldn't hold. Three minutes later Coleshill strung together some passes, a rare feat indeed, involving Danny Carter, Phil Gayle, Barry Fitzharris and Dior Angus who set up the onrushing Keenan Rosser and the full back, on loan from Solihull Moors, shot across the keeper into the net. Coleshill huffed and puffed but it was Stafford who were starting to get a strangle hold on the game. James Cartwright hit a dipping shot from fully 35 yards that was unlucky not to find the net but instead hit the bar, then a poor back pass was intercepted by Gunnell who hit the side netting with his effort. But the striker was back again minutes before the break to give the visitors the lead as he got in behind a static defence and finished well.

Coleshill improved in the second half, but that wouldn't be difficult, and equalised on 50 minutes. A long, long ball from a free kick was missed by everyone and Dior Angus managed to get a touch to send the ball into the net. Craig Gasiewski had a great chance to take the lead but instead of hitting the ball first time he tried to take a touch and the chance was gone. That just about summed up the second half action until the dying minutes as the game drifted towards extra time. Keenan Rosser had been moved to sweeper despite being our best player out wide. A long ball completely confused the two youngest members of the team, Rosser and youth team keeper James Pace and as they dallied Gunnell nipped in and tapped the ball into an empty net for the winner.

Out of the cups, manager Jason Lanns can concentrate on the league but it's going to be a long hard season as there are few players at the club with any real quality. The win over Sphinx shows that there is something there but it only appears now and again and there is no leader to galvanise the side. Good luck Jason, you'll need it!
