Ramsay on target but Coleshill succumb to late strike
COLESHILL Town succumbed to another late goal in their defeat away to Causeway United as they continued their frustrating start to the Midland Alliance campaign, writes Jonathan Day.

A much-changed Coleshill lineup dominated the early periods of the game but their lively performance was not rewarded with any goals.

It was Causeway who had the best chance of the half when the Coleshill goalkeeper, Sheridan Martinez saved well at the feet of Causeway's Aaron Lloyd.

Coleshill's best chance of the half fell to Shaw, but his free kick was comfortably saved by Tom Turner in the Causeway goal.

The second half saw Cole maintain their overall control of the game and they took a deserved lead in the 47th minute.

Jason Ramsay got a vital flick on to a long ball from Martinez's long ball up field, turning it in past the advancing Turner into the corner of the net.

The hosts responded well to going behind, however, and found an equaliser on 55 minutes, when Scott Stevenson slammed the ball in.

Causeway continued to pressure the visitors in search of a winning goal, with Coleshill dropping deeper.

The winning goal duly came when Craig Gregg found himself in the clear and fired past Martinez.

The hosts nearly added a third goal when a shot came back off the post.

Coleshill manager, Jason Lanns said he was disappointed with the result but insisted there were some signs of encouragement.

"Despite the result, the performance was better than we have seen recently," he said.

"Neither team created many clear-cut chances during the match until the final 15 minutes.

"Causeway pushed on a lot more than us towards the end which forced us back deeper and deeper.

"Conceding late goals is an unfortunate trait of ours at the moment, and it was down to an individual error on this occasion. But we assess matches as a team no matter whether we win or lose," added Lanns.

Coleshill's host Ellesmere Rangers a week on Saturday.
