COLESHILL HERALD WROTE
Travis has late effort ruled out as in-form Gornal edge it
MANAGERLESS Coleshill fell to a solitary goal against a Gornal side with five wins from their last eight games.

Despite only one goal being scored, it proved an entertaining game with plenty of good football on show.

Harry Reece had Coleshill's best opportunity as he burst through from midfield but his shot was weak and easily gathered by the keeper.

Gornal enjoyed lots of possession and their inventive play was rewarded early in the second half.

Coleshill kept plugging away but found chances hard to come by throughout the second half.

However, they nearly levelled in the 90th minute as James Travis got to the ball before the advancing goalkeeper and headed into the net.

However, the referee decided that Travis had handled and disallowed the goal as Coleshill were edged out.

Report
Chairman and now caretaker manager Paul Billing took charge again as Coleshill tried to match the excellent result away to Westfields last saturday. As the search for a new manager goes on Billing had his charges well wound up and there appeared to be a new spirit in the camp. Town had to play well however because the visitors Gornal were no mugs. Athletic were making their first ever visit to Pack Meadow in a league game and are enjoying their first season in the Alliance, lying comfortably in the top half of the table with five wins from their eight games so far. An entertaining game had lots of good football on show but very little goal mouth action. Youth teamer Harry Clare had Coleshill's best opportunity as he burst through from midfield but the run must have taken too much out of him as his shot was weak and easily gathered by the visiting keeper.
Gornal enjoyed lots of possession and their inventive play was rewarded early in the second half. On 52mins their centre forward hit a shot that beat Paul Hathaway in the Coleshill goal but not the bar and Hathaway happily gathered the rebound, but a minute later the same player shot from just outside the box and this time his effort beat the keeper at his near post. Gornal started to dominate but Coleshill's solid defence kept the score at just 1-0. Town kept plugging away but were finding chances hard to come by but in the 90th minute they thought they had managed to grab a point. With time running out Coleshill lifted a free kick into the box and James Travis appeared to get to the ball before the advancing goalkeeper to head into the net, however the referee decided that Travis had handled the ball, so disallowed the goal, booked Travis which meant he had to walk as he had been booked previously.
Disappointing not to get a point but the team showed plenty of fight and the new manager, who ever he is, will have something to work with when he finally takes charge.
