SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Highgate United were involved in an eight goal thriller at Tythe Barn Lane, visitors Coleshill grabbing a share of the points deep in injury time. Shane Benjamin and Dean Curtis grabbed two goals apiece for the home side, Curtis bagging his second in the 90th minute. But they had victory snatched away when Nick Ellis struck after efforts from Dan Douglas, Matt Brown and former Highgate forward Chris Gumery had kept Coleshill in touch.

MATCH REPORT
What a game! Despite the torrential rain, despite the dreadful pitch, despite some strange strange decisions by the referee, what a game! This is why myself and 72 other spectators at this game and thousands at other games throughout the country, come to watch Non-League football! Two committed teams giving their all for very little reward, well done the players, marvellous stuff!
Coleshill started the better and looked comfortable against the league leaders but as in the first game just four weeks ago Gate took the lead with their first attack on 8 minutes. Highgate's front pair are the reason they are top of the league, two fine players, and it was Lei Brown who got to the bye line and his cross found his partner at the far post, Shane Benjamin slamming the ball into the roof of the net. Chris Lloyd had a shot parried by Gate keeper Stuart Parsons which came out too quickly for Chris Gumery to react to. A powerful Lei Brown run and shot brought out the best in the visitors keeper Paul Hathaway before Coleshill equalised on 25 minutes. Matt Brown sent in a corner and Danny Douglas leapt highest to head home, something he had been threatening to do for some weeks now. Benjamin and Brown combined again and the latter brought out an even better save from Hathaway but Brown was back again on 35minutes when he easily went to ground in the box to a harmless looking challenge from Declan Kirby, penalty! Benjamin made no mistake and Gate were 2-1 up. Coleshill should have levelled when a Barry Fitzharris shot came back off the home keeper but Matt Brown lifted his effort over the bar. This proved to be costly as Highgate increased their lead three minutes before the break. Dean Curtis was first to a corner and his fine headed flick at the near post crept into the net. 3-1 down at half time and a monumental effort needed in the second period to get anything from this game.
Well, Coleshill were prepared to give that monumental effort and took the game to Gate from the off. Gumery so nearly got on the end of a Brown cross, Chris Lloyd was through on goal but the keeper was out quick to snuff the danger, and then Lloyd again should have shot but dallied and the chance was gone but finally, on 65 minutes some reward. Matt Brown's shot from distance took a wicked deflection, wrong footed Parsons and landed in the net, game on! Highgate rallied, Benjamin and Brown carved out a chance for Danny Kerrigan but he dragged his shot wide. Benjamin had a shot that Hathaway did well to save then Kerrigan cut inside and his rasping left foot shot came back off the bar. On 87 minutes Nick Ellis won a powerful header in midfield which released Matt Brown and when his shot was parried by the home keeper Chris Gumery was on hand to force the ball home. 3-3 and a deserved point for Town but Highgate wouldn't lie down. They forced a corner on 90 minutes, the deep cross was powerfully headed against the bar by Jamie Bailey and when they ball came back down Dean Curtis was first to react to head home. Absolutely gutting for Coleshill after their second half heroics but it still wasn't over. Nick Ellis slid in Gumery and from a great position he dragged his shot wide, then in a last ditch effort Danny Tymon rolled the ball into the path of Nick Ellis who hit a blinder into the top corner. Incredible! What a game!
