Report
This game was a mirror image of the game against Sphinx on Boxing day! For the first 20 minutes Coleshill couldn't get near Quorn and should have been at least a couple of goals down but slowly Town worked their way into the match. Three points over the two games probably would have been a decent reward for all the hard work put in, but the single point gained is a little disappointing. But that's football!

Danny Douglas came in at left full back for his first game since returning from injury. The mid-field three of Danny Tymon, Nick Ellis and Barry Fitzharris, on paper, looks solid but in reality they looked lost and this permutation needs some work. Matt Brown ploughed a lone furrow up front and what a magnificent job he did!

Quorn should have taken the lead with less than two minutes on the clock when Liam Read got to the bye line and crossed for Dominic Brennan but the striker hit his shot over the bar from the centre of the goal. Coleshill gave away endless free kicks on the edge of the box and Quorn's delivery was excellent but their finishing was woeful, Jordan Wakeling the worst offender when clearing the bar from a yard out! Coleshill had some relief when a Paul Hathaway goal kick found Oliver Casey and a clever through ball released the ever keen runner Matt Brown but his powerful shot was well saved by the home keeper Laurie Pearson. Oliver Brown-Hill went down in the box under a challenge from Luke Edwards, it looked a pen but nothing was given and seconds later Brennan went down but this looked much less a pen and again nothing was given. Casey tried to feed Brown again but Pearson was well out of his box quickly only just getting there before Brown. Barry Fitzharris had a left foot shot deflected out for a corner as Town started to make a game of it! Read shot over when well placed and Brown shot well wide after a good run but a bad bounce. A thunderous tackle by Douglas burst the match ball, an indication of Coleshill's determined defending! Brennan and Read played tippy tappy stuff inside the box failing to shoot from great positions and the half was at an end, how on earth was it still 0-0.

The second half started in the same manner, Brennan hitting a shot wide of the post when in a great position. Brown-Hill sent a terrific cross along the six yard line but their was no-one there to convert the chance and then Coleshill showed the home team how it should be done. Leon Weller sent Brown away down the right, his cross to the far post picked out Dean Rathbone who had to stretch but managed to direct the ball into the net 1-0. Rathbone fed substitute Ryan Nash but he dragged his shot from a great position as Coleshill had their best spell. Rathbone got took out in the box, another shout for a penalty that wasn't given! A second goal at this stage could have ensued three points but two substitutions by the home team changed all that. Liam Turner got to the bye line and crossed for Alex Honour to side foot home from the centre of the goal. Easy as that! Jack Hullin headed a Chris Lloyd corner only just the wrong side of the post, Hathaway made a double save from Read then Brennan and Danny Tymon chipped an effort just wide in what had finally become an entertaining game. It was the home substitutes again who combined for the winner as Turner fed Honour and although Hathaway got a hand to his shot he couldn't keep the ball out, 2-1 to Quorn! Brown tried to chip Pearson and the stopper was out quickly to deny Lloyd and Brown as Coleshill tried in vain to get an equaliser.

Coleshill have played much better than this in the last few games and can easily get back to winning ways but the next game is another tough one against Boldmere and another defeat could dent their confidence with the FA Vase game looming! Keep the Faith Boys!

And A View From The Other Side
Taken from Quorn FC Web site
Quorn began the game much brighter than of late and should have taken an early lead when a good ball by Tom Cooper picked out Dom Brennan, he sent Liam Read down the right who got to the by-line and pulled the ball back to Brennan but he couldn’t keep his effort down and fired over the bar. Coleshill responded immediately and surged through the heart of the Quorn defence but Jordan Wakeling timed his tackle superbly to concede the corner, which came to nothing.

The visitors conceded a number of free kicks in dangerous areas, Sam Young’s free kicks causing concern, the 2nd of which should have brought the opening goal but Wakeling’s connection, stretching from close range, was too heavy and the ball looped over the bar, any less contact would have given visiting keeper Paul Hathaway no chance. Cooper then crossed for Brennan to head goal wards but Hathaway made a comfortable catch. A poor ball out of defence fell invitingly for Coleshill’s Matt Brown but the number 9 fired well over, from distance.

Wakeling again got on the end of another Young free kick but his header went straight to Hathaway who gathered cleanly. Great football by Quorn saw Dan Henton and Read combine to send Brennan clear but Danny Douglas made a superb intervention to save the day. The same player then received a caution for the third of a series of poor tackles, this time Read was felled, the free kick was well defended and the visitors broke for Brown to go clear, Wakeling made a good recovery tackle but Brown regained control but couldn’t beat the alert Laurie Pearson who made a good stop.

Quorn should have been awarded a penalty when Ollie Brown-Hill burst into the box, evaded one tackle but was took out with the 2nd but the referee amazingly waived play on. Coleshill after this let off, mounted a dangerous looking attack but Pearson read it well and raced out to quell the danger. Wakeling played a good ball to Brennan, his fine delivery was well cut out as Read was ready to pounce. A good run by Brennan saw his pass, laid off cleverly first time by Brown-Hill but Read’s effort was over the bar. Brown latched on to another long ball but scuffed his effort well wide of Pearson’s goal. The half drew to a close with Dodd having a chance to break the deadlock but Coleshill got back in numbers and snuffed out the danger.

The 2nd half began in much the same vein and Brennan again had a great chance to put Quorn ahead but his effort was wide of the near post. A superb run and cross by Brown-Hill down the left evaded attackers and defenders alike and the visitors breathed again. With 55 minutes gone Quorn fell to a sucker punch and a sleeping assistant was yards off where he should have been, Dean Rathbone took full advantage of his off-side start, to advance and slip the ball passed Pearson, to give his side an unlikely lead in the 55th minute.

The visitors were given a lift by their good fortune and with Quorn looking a bit demoralised, Coleshill had their best spell of the game, Ryan Nash could have added to the home team woes but scuffed his shot wide when well placed. Quorn steadied the ship and Brown-Hill’s in swinging corner was touched onto the bar by Hathaway. Pearson came a long way to gather an awkward cross and under pressure spilled the ball but Cooper was on hand to clear the danger. Substitutes Alex Honour and Liam Turner combined on the right but the former’s cross was headed over by Brennan as Quorn searched for the equaliser.

Turner and Read then combined on the right and the cross was met first time by Honour, his left foot volley nestled in the near corner past the wrong footed Hathaway, with just over 15 minutes remaining. Restoring parity almost backfired on the home side, when Coleshill responded immediately and only a great save by Pearson prevented Brown’s deflected strike from handing the lead back to the visitors. The resulting corner saw Jack Hulin head wide from close range, with everyone waiting for the net to bulge from his free header.

Brennan and Read were denied in quick succession by Hathaway as Quorn pressed for the winner. With 6 minutes remaining, they did finally get their noses in front and it was Honour again who showed great composure to control Turner’s cross before firing past Hathaway from 10 yards. Another terrible error of judgement by the assistant saw the visitors go clear again from an offside position but Pearson raced out to thwart the danger and Quorn saw out time for a deserved victory.

N.B. The reports are very similar but off side for the Coleshill goal, I don't think so!
