Match Report
The records continue to tumble! Coleshill have now past their previous highest points total and goals scored in a season since promotion to the Midland Alliance back in 2008. They also recorded their first ever win over Stourport Swifts, the sides have only ever met four times before but three defeats and a draw wasn't good reading for Town!

Make no mistake, this was a big, big win! Swifts are a very good side and in the middle of a good run, one defeat in 10, not many sides come away from Walshes Meadow with the points! Town had to dig deep and battle against a big, physical side and probably would have settled for a draw but they came up with a bit of real class to score a peach of a winning goal!

John Griffin could have opened the scoring early on but he uncharacteristically shot wide. Griffin usually enjoyed playing against Coleshill as he had previously recorded hat-tricks on two occasions. Lewis Pountney hit a looping shot that landed on the roof of the net as the home side started the better of the two sides. Chris Lloyd hit a shot wide and Danny Tymon and Chris Gumery combined with the latter putting in a dangerous cross as Coleshill tried to get a foothold in the game, but Swifts should have took the lead on the twenty minute mark when both Calvin Dinsley and Griffen had chances inside the six yard box but somehow Luke Edwards managed to clear. Jamie Willets then sent in a volley that Paul Hathaway had to tip over the bar. Gumery had the ball in the net from a Dean Rathbone corner but was adjudged to have pushed the keeper. Town then had a series of free kicks around the 18 yard box. Lloyds effort just went over angle of post and bar, Rathbone's deep cross was dropped by the keeper but no-one was on hand to take advantage. Then another Rathbone dead ball kick was half cleared but fell to Lloyd who hit a shot from just inside the box through a sea of bodies and feet to land in the corner of the net. 1-0 32 minutes! Pountney looked free on goal but Danny Douglas made a great goal saving tackle. Lloyd toe poked past the keeper but unfortunately past the post as well. Dan Parker headed over the bar from a free kick then Jamie Hyde sent in a beaut of a cross that was just begging to be put away but Luke Edwards made a great diving headed clearance. In the dying minutes of the half Brown sent Lloyd clear with a clever ball but his powerful shot was always rising.

Swifts upped the tempo in the second half! Griffen shot just over the bar, Hyde went down in the box looking for a penalty that wasn't given and then on 55 minutes they levelled the scores. Coleshill have kept clean sheets in the last four games with the back four being magnificent. They were tremendous again in this game, but Pountney won't score many easier goals. Ashley Parsons Smith sent a free kick into the box and Pountney rose unchallenged to head past Hathaway and into the net, 1-1 game on! The home side now had their best spell and Coleshill could have folded under the pressure but this side doesn't give in! Their never say die and team spirit came to the fore and they started to stem the tide and then a moment of brilliance! Leon Weller won the ball in the right back spot deep in his own half. He ran the length of the pitch and sent a pin point cross to the far post where Matt Brown gleefully accepted the chance to nod home the eventual winner, his 20th goal of the season! Coleshill had the lead and weren't going to give it up without a massive fight. Substitute Ryan Nash sent Brown clear on a one on one with his first touch but the home keeper did really well to save with his feet. In reply Swifts threw everything at Town! They had a great shout for a penalty when the ball appeared to hit Barry Fitzharris's hand and a corner scraped the bar but the Colemen held firm to record their ninth win in a row!

This was a team effort and it would be unfair to pick one person out but two partnerships deserve a mention. Barry Fitzharris and Danny Tymon in the centre of midfield broke up the oppositions play time and again and drove the team forward. And Danny Douglas and Luke Edwards in the centre of defence were immense and must have bad heads this morning as they cleared everything Swifts could throw at them! The title is probably out of reach but don't say that to these players, they believe they can win every game to the end of the season and with that attitude, Why Not!

Coleshill Town reached unprecedented heights beyond their wildest dreams on Saturday as they notched up their ninth consecutive victory climbing within 4 points of the leaders in the process as the title race became even hotter than ever before. The Colemen exacted revenge on Stourport Swifts, who eliminated Coleshill from the F.A. Cup this season, with a 2-1 success defeating the Worcestershire based outfit for the first time ever. Winger Chris Lloyd put the visitors ahead before Lewis Pountney equalised in the second half. Matt Brown then headed home his 20th of the season to secure the win.

Casey made a couple of changes to the squad that conquered Shepshed Dynamo in mid-week. Chris Lloyd returned to the starting eleven having been rested in mid-week. Chris Gumery also returned up front alongside Brown in the first eleven. Nick Ellis and Jack Hulin were also recalled to the bench.

The opening 15 minutes of this contest provided little to discuss. The two teams were evenly matched and simply could not break down the oppositions defence as the ball bounced back and forth. Then, a quarter of an hour in, Stourport had a glimmer of hope. The Swifts earned themselves a free kick deep in the visitors half and following an excellent delivery, John Griffin attacked the ball with venom however his rifled effort went just wide as he searched for his 8th goal against Coleshill Town.

The home side then became motivated with the crowd firmly in their corner, the Coleshill defence started getting peppered. Pountney saw an effort go just over Hathaway’s bar leaving the keeper rooted to the spot on 17 minutes. Moments later, the striker pulled another effort just wide of the post. Hathaway then had to pull out his best theatrics in goal as he prevented a superb volley from going in from the boot of Willets. Briscoe then headed over on 21 minutes as Coleshill survived the Stourport onslaught.

As the game approached half time, the tie turned in favour of Coleshill. The visitors began putting the Swifts under pressure as Lloyd missed the target by centimetres with a promising free kick. However, the winger made amends for his miss just after the half hour mark when he unleashed a terrific strike beyond Hawker to open the scoring and make it 1-0 to the Colemen.

With the first half coming to a close, Chris Lloyd made his presence known even more to the hosts as he threatened on a couple more occasions. Lloyd firstly tried lobbing Hawker on 40 minutes however his attempt when just wide and then again on the stroke of half time, the midfielder turned the Stourport defence inside out and blazed a shot over the bar.

As the second half began, both sides had potential goal scoring chances however both Griffin and Gumery put their shots off target. It didn’t take long for Stourport Swifts to find their comfort zone however as they levelled the score on 56 minutes. A wonderful free kick was swung in and met by the head of Swifts striker Lewis Pointney to make it 1-1.

Less than 10 minutes later, Coleshill were back in front. The determined and resilient forward Matt Brown headed home the delicious cross produced by right back Leon Weller to bag his 20th goal of the campaign and in doing so, he restored the Colemen’s advantage.

With a little over a quarter of an hour to go, Brown had the chance to double and further extend the visitor’s lead with an excellent one on one opportunity with keeper Hawker however Stourport’s goalkeeper saved the attempt.

From the 80th minute onwards, it was simply all about defending their lead for Coleshill. Parsons Smith took a wonderful corner which forced skipper Hathaway into tipping the ball over the bar. Then controversy struck with 3 minutes to go as the referee waved away penalty appeals from Stourport as they pleaded for hand ball. Parsons Smith then saw a corner saved once again by Hathaway as Coleshill held on to win their ninth game in a row.

Coleshill now sit 4th in the league as 4 points separate the top four. They next play away at Kirby Muxloe on Tuesday 1st April 2014 at Ratby Lane. A win here will see Coleshill Town win their 10th game in a row and they could enter the top three depending on how their rivals get on.
