SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
The biggest win of the day came at Coleshill Town, who cruised to a 5-0 win against Loughborough University. James Williams opened the scoring in the first half before Matty Brown's brace and further goals from Luke Edwards and Chris Lloyd in the second period.

MATCH REPORT
Coleshill needed to repay the Uni for a disastrous second half showing back in January at Holywell Park where they conceded five goals in just 19 minutes. They did just that with some very entertaining football and some cracking goals but they were helped by a depleted and toothless University side.

Loughborough played some neat passing football but had little penetration and Paul Hathaway had a very quiet day. On Wednesday, when Coleshill played a very physical and direct side in Tipton, they got dragged into a long ball game but Loughborough allow you to play and Coleshill took full advantage with some of the best football they have produced in weeks. Dean Rathbone had an impressive game in a more central role and was at the heart of Town's best moves. Rathbone won the ball in the centre circle and released Chris Lloyd with a fine ball with the outside of his foot. Lloyd easily went past the keeper but the ball went past the post as well, and minutes later in a repeat performance Matt Brown saw his effort go wide of the post. Danny Douglas made a great tackle but fell on the ball and was not only penalised for his digression but was amazingly booked as well. In reply Tristian Dunckley had a free kick, centre of goal, just outside the box but although his effort went through the wall, it was an easy save for Hathaway. Coleshill finally took a deserved lead on 38 minutes but in bazaar fashion. There was no danger when Dan Wilkinson took a throw in deep in his own half. He threw the ball back to his keeper but Matt Brown was alert and as Lancaster took an awful first touch, Brown nipped in, toe poked the ball beyond the stopper and tapped in to an empty net. Lancaster made amends with a fine save from Lloyd but he could do nothing as debutant youth team player James Williams hit an unstoppable shot from 30 yards that rocketed into the net. Rathbone sent Connor leek flying down the left wing, his cross was dummied by Brown leaving Lloyd clear in front of goal but his shot went over the bar. Dunckley had another free kick but sent his effort over the bar.

The Scholars started much better in the early stages of the second half but for all their possession there was little end product. A good run by Danny Tymon set Lloyd away down the right and his cross was flicked on by Brown but just beyond the post. On 66 minutes Coleshill were out of sight as young Williams made his mark again. Lancaster punched Connor Leek's corner well into the air and as it came down Williams headed goalward with Luke Edwards getting the finest of touches before it reached the back of the net. Stuart McClaren shot straight at Hathaway before it was four! Lloyd nicked the ball on the half way line and fed Brown who powered down on goal. Brown's shot was parried by Lancaster but Lloyd had followed up to volley home. Brown then scored a fine solo goal as he past several defenders before lifted the ball over the keeper as he went to ground. Josh Hill had the ball in the net for the Uni but he was clearly offside. Rathbone brought another good save from Lancaster and then in the dying minutes the keeper did even better as he saved a Brown effort with his feet.

Coleshill found their form again in this game and it has come just in time as the Colemen take on Champions elect Tividale on Tuesday night.

FIVE STAR COLESHILL RETURN TO WINNING WAYS AGAINST SCHOLARS

Coleshill Town: Hathaway (C), Williams, Worthington (Bradshaw 47′), Edwards, Douglas, Fitzharris, Lloyd (Porter 73′), Tymon, Brown, Rathbone, Leek (Ellis 75′). SUBS NOT USED: Hulin, Nash.

Loughborough University: Lancaster, Wilkinson, Baxter, Nash (C), Heard, Brenan, Winchester (Stevenson 41′), Hill, McLaren, Lemon, Dunkley. SUBS NOT USED: Matthews.

Coleshill Town returned to winning ways at the expense of Loughborough University as they decapitated the Scholars 5-0 in a dominating display. Having not won in their previous three, Paul Casey’s men’s title hopes had all but faded and therefore The Colemen were determined to see out a strong finish to an already impressive campaign. Goals from Matt Brown, Chris Lloyd, Luke Edwards and absolute scorcher from debutant James Williams ensured the three points went Coleshill’s way at Pack Meadow. This now extends Coleshill’s impressive home record to 14 games undefeated. They haven’t lost a game at home in 2014 and last tasted defeat on home soil in a 3-2 defeat to Highgate United on September 14th.

The Colemen made a strong start to the game and dominated the opening 20 minutes. Danny Douglas had the best of a flurry of opportunities for Casey’s men on 8 minutes as he smashed an incoming free kick from just yards out sky high over the bar.

Coleshill then continued their first half domination and should have opened the scoring on 22 minutes through Chris Lloyd as he ran the ball beyond Loughborough keeper Lancaster however his heavy touch took the ball away from him and went literally centimetres wide of the open goal. Just moments later, Matt Brown experienced the exact same fate as Lloyd as his chance rolled wide of an open goal.

Coleshill’s top scorer once again came close on 29 minutes in which effectively should’ve made the game 3-0 to Coleshill. Matt Brown, despite having options in the centre, fancied his chances from a tight angle and his shot went straight into the side netting. Three minutes later, Loughborough had their first real chance of the game as Dunkley drilled a free kick low and hard across the ground straight into the clutches of skipper Hathaway.

Then as half time approached, the game was turned on it’s head. In a moment of absolute unpredictability, Wilkinson’s throw-in was bizarrely mis-kicked by keeper Lancaster and Coleshill Town forward Matt Brown swooped in with a calm finish to break the deadlock. Just seconds later, Chris Lloyd almost doubled the home side’s advantage however his rapid effort flashed across the face of goal.

Just minutes later, in a moment of sheer beauty, debutant James Williams doubled Coleshill’s lead on 40 minutes with a sensational 30 yard strike which was applauded and admired by everyone in attendance. As the first half closed, further chances came and threatened both keepers as both Lloyd and Dunkley came close for both sides.

As the teams returned from the interval, the second half continued in pretty much the same manner as the first. Brown came close to grabbing his second flicking Lloyd’s shot just wide of the far post.

Coleshill then added a third to their already comfortable lead as Luke Edwards rose highest to head home and make it 3-0 to Paul Casey’s side. However, with memories of their last meeting with The Scholars still etched in their memories when they lost 6-4, Coleshill remained focused.

Loughborough came close to pulling one back in the form of a strike from their player-manager McLaren however Hathaway remained equal to it. Then on 71 minutes, following a quick tempo counter attack, Lloyd converted Brown’s cross from close range to make it 4-0.

Matt Brown then wrapped up proceedings with 5 minutes to go skipping beyond several defenders lifting the ball over Lancaster for his brace and 22nd goal of the season. Loughborough almost pulled one back but the score remained 5-0 after Hill’s header was ruled out for offside.

Rathbone and Tymon then had late efforts but the full time whistle sounded and Pack Meadow greeted the home side to a chorus of lifting cheers and a round of applause from the home supporters.

Coleshill now sit 4th in the league table on 72 points. They are 12 points a drift of league leaders Tividale who they meet on Tuesday 15th April 2014 with a kick off time at 19:45PM.
