MATCH REPORT

Coleshill moved into second place with this win following former leaders Basford's second defeat of the season and could move to the top spot with a win at Stourport on Tuesday night! But Town are still not firing on all cylinders! The defence is solid! The only goal they have conceded in the last three games was a 40 yard screamer! And with eleven goals in the last three games, they certainly know where the net is! But it is linking the two that just doesn't seem to be clicking at the moment. The visitors are currently in a relegation position and yet they played the better football and dominated possession for long periods. That said, Chris Jay didn't have too much to do and the other keeper, Dynamo's Ryan Thacker, was man of the match with several outstanding saves!

Shepshed started the better but all they had to show for their efforts was a free kick from Brett Minshull that went over the bar in the first minute. Danny Douglas went close to opening the scoring from a corner but made no mistake on 10 minutes when a Tom Weale corner found Shane Benjamin at the far post and his header back across goal was met by the diving Douglas to head home. Dynamo had a good shout for a penalty when Stephen Chaplin headed wide from a corner but he looked as though he had been pushed. Chaplin did great at the other end when he tackled Benjamin as he was about to shoot. Weale shot wide and Benjamin headed straight at the keeper before Coleshill scored their second on 35 minutes. Leon Weller did well to get down the right wing and fed Weale who found Matt Brown in the box. Brown's quick feet were to much for the defender and down he went. Benjamin converting from the penalty spot. Weller then sent in a powerful shot from 25 yards that the keeper could do no more than punch clear. Scott Staniland nipped in front of Weller but shot harmlessly wide.

Early in the second half Jon Jones won the ball in midfield fed Danny Tymon whose goalbound shot was deflected for a corner. Adam Vasey burst into the box and pursued by Danny Douglas may have got a penalty had he gone to ground! Connor Bennett hit a speculative shot from 30 odd yards that caught Chris Jay napping and somehow ended up in the net on 58 minutes. Kieran Davies skipped past left back Craig Milligan but sent his shot well over from a good position and David Hind had a great chance to level the scores but on a one on one with Jay, the home keeper came out on top! Coleshill strengthened their lead on 70 mintes when a Benjamin shot was well saved but Simeon Cobourne was on hand to force the ball home. Chris Lloyd combined with Leon Weller down the right and his cross was met on the volley by Cobourne to score his second on 81 minutes. Lloyd had a shot saved by Thacker's feet then Cobourne was denied his hat trick as his powerful shot was saved by the keepers knees. In the dying seconds Cobourne was hauled to the ground inside the box but amazingly no penalty was forthcoming. Thacker then confirmed his man of the match performance by palming a thunderbolt from Benjamin over the bar!

Shepshed Dynamo travelled to high flying Coleshill Ton under the caretaker management of Club captain Chris Gray.
Coleshill Town 4 Shepshed Dynamo 1

Although Dynamo put a spirited performance the strength in depth in the Coleshill midfield and forward line was too much for Shepshed. A result which put Coleshill top of the Midland Football League and dropped Shepshed back into the bottom three.

The first chance of the game fell to Shepshed in the opening minute but Ben Minshull's effort went over the bar.

Boasting probably one of the best midfield/forward line ups in the league Coleshill began to start forcing pressure on the Shepshed defensive line on eight minutes a Tom Weale corner flashed across the box, Coleshill attacked Shepshed again this time Steve Chaplin managing to clear Danny Douglas's shot for a corner.

But from the resultant corner Town took the lead Tom Weale's corner was met by a free header for Shane Benjamin who found Douglas to head home.

Six minutes later and Ryan Thacker made a good save from Jonathan Jones.

Shepshed weren't without chances David Hind shot was saved by Chris Jay on seventeen minutes and three minutes later Chaplin starting the move found Scott Stanniland and from Hind's cross Chaplin who looked to have been pulled back heade over the bar.

Coleshill went two nil up on Thirty six minutes Matt Brown turning in the box was deemed to have been brought down and Shane Benjamin doubled the hosts lead with his spot kick. Five minutes later an excellent save from Leon Weller by Thacker denied Coleshill a three goal lead at the break. Although the final chance of the half fell to Stanniland who fired wide.

After ending the half well Shepshed carried the fight to get back into the game into the second half Chaplin's effort on Forty eight, minutes deflected wide, two minutes later and Jay was made to save Staniland's free kick.

On fifty eight minutes Adam Vasey was put through but was out strengthed by Douglas to deny Shepshed a way back into the game but within seconds of Conor Bennett replacing Minshull his thirty yard effort beat Jay to bring Shepshed back into the game.

Keiron Davies on sixty five minutes was put through on the right but his cross sailed high and wide. and three minutes later Shepshed's best chance of an equaliser rose with Davies finding Bennett and with Hind one on with Jay the keeper managed to divert the ball away from goal and two minutes Jay saved from Hind.

This spurred Coleshill back into life and on sixty nine minutes Jimmy Brooks cleared off the line from Simeon Colbourne and three minutes later after a double save by Thacker from Benjamin the ball deflected back out off the post to the feet of Colebourne to restore Coleshill's two goal lead.

On seventy four minutes Brett Staniland found Hind but his effort wnet over the bar.

On eighty minutes Coleshill made it four one Colebourne had been a threat since he had come on and a cross from Weller found him free in the box to beat Thacker in the Shepshed goal.

Shepshed were looking tired and were fortunate but for a double save from Thacker not to conceed further.

A spirited performance by Shepshed but found a wealth of experience up against them too strong in the end.
