MATCH REPORT
By Paul Billing

With Manager Paul Casey making several changes with games coming hard and fast Coleshill settled very quickly and set the early pace on what was a very heavy pitch.

Considering the conditions Coleshill started very brightly playing some attractive football at a very quick pace and created several early half-chances that fell to Ryan Nash, Shane Benjamin and Ricky Cutting. In fact, it was the lively Cutting who opened the scoring after 13 minutes turning in a shot from close range after good work by Nash.

Alvechurch are well known for never rolling over, so the next goal was always going to be crucial and Coleshill could have feared the worst as chances continued to flow but without conversion. A Cutting effort in 29th minute being the clearest-cut with the keeper producing a great save when one-on-one and a Benjamin effort cleared off the line during a goalmouth scramble.

As the half went on Alvechurch started to get a foot hold on the game and started to dictate a little with the half-time whistle coming at the right time and allowing Coleshill to re-group. A great goal-saving block from Danny Douglas being the pick of the Coleshill defending and a couple of tidy catches from Chris Jay at the right times to ease the pressure.

H/T 0-1

The second half started like the first with Coleshill bossing the midfield with big performances from Danny Tymon and Craig Milligan and with the impressive Luke Edwards and Douglas marshalling the back-four with support from Oliver Casey and debutant Rob Evans at full-backs, it was clear the instructions were clean-sheet second half half wins the game.

In truth, Jay in the Coleshill goal still had to make a neat save from an effort bound for the top-corner just on the hour but that just gave Coleshill the wake-up call they needed as in the space of five minutes they created another two great chances that both fell to the impressive Nash who put in a great shift but he just failed to beat the keeper who along with his two centre-halves were certainly having a good game and standing up to the Coleshill front-line.

With the game still just 1-0 Coleshill got the much deserved second goal with a crisp finish from the over-lapping full-back Evans and that seemed to deflate Alvechurch as it was just a matter of how many more chances Coleshill would get and take in the last 25 minutes.

Despite again more chances coming and going the best chances fell to substitute Simeon Cobourne when on two separate occasions he raced clear only to be denied by the keeper and on the third occasion he got caught in two minds and was guilty of not slipping in Benjamin who couldn’t have missed from 5 yards out.

The third and final goal came late on from Benjamin who found the bottom corner with the out-side of his boot from about 15 yards leaving the keeper help-less after some good work from Tom Weale and Simeon Cobourne.

Manager Paul Casey said: "It was a difficult game in the sense that the pitch was one of the worst that I have seen. It was like rolled mud.

But I thought we dealt with that really well and produced a magnificent performance. A few people were looking at that as a slippery tie for us but we came through it brilliantly."

Another Blank for Church as Coleshill March On
by Alan Deakin

Coleshill again proved to be too strong for Church, securing a quick-fire double after having also dumped the Lye Meadow side out of the League Cup.

Alvechurch failed to find the net again, and conceded three more goals after shipping four at the weekend, and no let up in tough fixtures in sight with a visit to Walsall Wood to look forward to.

Another tough fixture for Lee Knight’s fledgling side, and once again, as a couple of weeks ago, Coleshill proved too strong a nut to crack.

An opening goal on 14 came from a long throw that proved effective for the visitors throughout. Only half cleared, the ball was punted back for Ricky Cutting to stab in from 8 yards to give Coleshill a soft lead.
Although Coleshill held the lead, and pressed for a while to turn the screw, it was Church that subsequently enjoyed the best spell of domination in the first half, but there was no way through, but the home side finished the opening forty five minutes on the front foot.

But the game swung back in Coleshill’s favour at the beginning of the second half. Church were forced into massed defensive ranks to block and parry a succession of raids on their goal, and on 54 a fortuitous run of the ball set Weale through on goal, but Edwards stood up well to foil him with a great one on one save.

A good chance for Church on 61 when a curling cross from Race was connected with by Evans, and his on target header forced keeper Jay to palm the ball over at full stretch.

There was a killer blow on 65 however when Coleshill claimed their second goal. A diagonal ball to the edge of the box, and Rob Evans despatched a low drive into Edwards’ far corner.

Coup de grace on 83 when Coleshill scored a third on the break to put some gloss on the scoreline. A defence splitting through ball, and Shane Benjamin latched onto the ball and deftly despatched it into the same corner that Evans had done.
