Town Reach Heights After Rivals Stumble

Coleshill Town climbed to the top of the table following their defeat of fellow high fliers Quorn. Shane Benjamin fired Coleshill into a 14th minute lead, firing into the corner. Further pressure followed with Jacob Wright and Mykel Beckley being denied by visiting keeper Laurie Pearson. The points were finally secured two minutes from time when Robert Evans collected a Danny Tymon pass before firing home Coleshill's second.

Coleshill were Team Of The Month for January and must now be a shoe in for a repeat award for February as they extended their unbeaten run to 14 games (in all competitions) stretching back to the 6th December!

Just seven days ago one point separated the top four in the league but with Lye not playing, Baseford and Long Eaton losing, Town have gone three points clear at the top, something they have never achieved before, another record in the locker for Manager Paul Casey!

Coleshill put in probably their best performance of the season at Quorn in December putting six past a very good team with no reply and completed the "double" with a grittier, but no less impressive performance against a footballing top six side!

On a breezy day and a bumpy pitch the visitors played some very attractive football but as has been the case all season, the Town defence gave nothing away and at the other end everyone is pitching in with goals, the right back on this occasion!

Town took the lead on 14 minutes with a solo goal from Town's leading scorer. Quorn's centre half looked favourite to get to a long ball down the middle but Shane Benjamin bullied his marker, forced his way into the box and hit a left foot shot beyond the visitors keeper, Laurie Pearson for his 34th goal of the season. Dominic Brennan pounced on a Chris Jay miskicked goal kick but hit the side netting. A quick throw from Benjamin released Mykel Beckley and his cross fell nicely for Jacob Wright but his chance to score against his old team was thwarted by a fine save by Pearson. Wright and Beckley combined again to find Tom Weale at the far post and his goal bound effort was somehow cleared off the line. A Weale long throw in was headed on by Danny Douglas but a Benjamin overhead kick went just wide. Rob Evans headed on a Douglas free kick to Beckley who side footed an effort inches wide of the post. Karl Whymark lincked up with Theo Brown and his cross was cleverly flicked on by Brennan but Jay saved at the foot of the post.

Quorn came more into the game in the second half and pushed Coleshill deeper and deeper. A Brown cross along the six yard box was just missing a touch to find it's way to the net and a Whymark free kick suffered the same fate. Brennan had a shot deflected for a corner and Whymark shot wide. Benjamin charged down a clearance but shot straight at the keeper from a narrow angle. Sam Hollis spotted Brennan's run down the channel and his shot across Jay only just went wide of the far post. Craig Milligan wasn't too far away from the target with an effort from distance. Town finally made the points safe with just two minutes remaining. Simeon Cobourne did really well to retrieve a lost cause in the box and pulled the ball back for Danny Tymon. He was about to shoot but got the call from the overlapping Rob Evans who smashed Tymon's pass into the net despite Pearson getting a hand to it! Cobourne could have got a goal himself in the dying seconds but Pearson saved with his feet!

We are Top Of The League, say We are Top Of The League!!!!!
