Season Review
First season back in the Midland Combination Premier was to be a season of consolidation and after just three points from the first five games survival was the main objective. But Town exceeded expectations in September when they took 19 points from a possible 21 and by November they lay in 3rd place. However, just two wins in ten games at the turn of the year saw Town drop back to mid-table, and they finally finished in a creditable 10th place, a position which had only been bettered eight times in the club’s 117 year history! Colin Strong started the season as Manager but moved up to Director Of Football and his Assistant Gary Higgins, took over as Manager. The Management team were looking to the future and were not afraid to draft in young players from an up and coming reserve team. In the last game of the season against Champions Grosvenor Park, the squad contained six teenagers. The Reserve team, under the leadership of Manager Alan Beckett, finished 5th in their league but more importantly won the Challenge Urn to bring silverware to the club for the first time in nineteen years. The future looked bright!
