COLESHILL GAZETTE WROTE
Coleshill Town finished their season with a trip to Champions Grosvenor Park on Bank Holiday Monday, suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat. Town named six teenagers in their squad to face a very experienced team who will be plying their trade in the Midland Alliance next season. In a very open game on a dry dusty surface both sides squandered good openings in the first period. Coleshill were thankful that keeper Greg Allen was at his best as twice he denied Park at point blank range. While at the other end Nicky Fell and Lee Dempster both had goal scoring opportunities. Although the home side had the upper hand, Coleshill worked really hard to keep them in check and were just starting to take a grip on the game when Park scored a sloppy effort in a goalmouth scramble four minutes from the break. Within two minutes of the re-start James Connor scored his 22nd of the season when the home keeper dropped the ball at his feet after a Gareth Jenkins cross. Grosvenor were not to be denied their night of glory as they dug deep and regained the lead on 52 minutes. The remainder of the game belonged to Coleshill as they drove back the table toppers in a determined effort to finish the season on a high, with Dave Wilson in particular causing all sorts of problems for the home defence. Unfortunately, it was not to be, but Managers Colin Strong and Gary Higgins can be proud of their young chargers and must be looking forward to next season safe in the knowledge that the future is in good hands.
