COLESHILL HERALD WROTE
Gormley Fires Coleshill Back To Winning Ways

Coleshill got back to winning ways with a hard fought tussle at Pack Meadow. Coleshill dominated the first half and went into the break deservedly one goal ahead, but in the second half Dudley launched an aerial bombardment on the home goalmouth, but the three man defence of Errol Black, Chris Mann and man of the match Wayne McKeown held firm and captain Tony Gormley sealed the win with a goal from a fine move with ten minutes to remaining. Coleshill got off to the perfect start with a goal after only eight minutes when from a corner the ball fell invitingly for Allan Thomas who made no mistake from six yards. Coleshill had Dudley pinned in their own half for long periods but rarely troubled the visitors keeper. The nearest they came was on 30 minutes when after three corners in as many minutes, Tony Gormley struck a shot just wide of the left hand post from a cross from Mitchell Thompson. Dave Adams, making his debut for the home side, had the ball in the net as half time approached but the effort was adjudged to be off side. In the second period Dudley began their aerial bombardment and it was all Dudley at this stage with Coleshill unable to get over the half-way line. The visitors created several good scoring opportunities but when they did finally find the net it was disallowed for off side on 75 minutes. Coleshill appeared to have weathered the storm and Paul Burns had a chance to seal the victory but took too long to get his shot off and the opportunity had gone. Coleshill finally started to push Dudley back and following consecutive corners the home side secured the points. The ball broke to Mitchell Thompson on the right and he delivered a low hard cross which Tony Gormley met on the stretch to find the far corner of the net. Dudley came back strongly in the last ten minutes but their best chance was cleared off the line by the impressive Wayne McKeown who had been a rock at the heart of the defence throughout. Manager Colin Strong said "It wasn't pretty to watch with the ball being in the air too much for my liking, but it is three valuable points against a team who are up amongst the chasing pack. The defence played tremendously and the whole team worked really hard but we missed Tim Hilton (flu) who holds the ball up really well and brings others into play. We can play better football than that", he added.
