Coleshill Town In Promotion Bid

Coleshill Town could still get promoted this season - despite finishing out of the top three. Town finished forth in the Midland Combination Division One after a 6-0 victory over relegated Wellesbourne last Saturday. But club officials are confident of promotion as the grounds of the top three sides are not up to the Premier Division's standards. The club has put in an application for promotion and league officials are due to carry out an inspection of the ground on June 14th. Town's Packmeadow ground should be up to scratch as the club had done a lot of work on the ground, installing lights, hard standing areas and barriers. Coleshill's hopes have also been increased by the news that two sides have applied to come down from the Premier Division. Town's season finished in style against a weak Wellesbourne side. Town went ahead after just eight minutes when stand-in centre back Steve Grady unleashed a 32 yard cracker that was unstoppable. Then, two goals in two minutes just before half time killed off the visitors. Ben usher headed home a Grady cross at the far post and then Tim Hilton sprang the offside trap and crossed for Frank Woodburn who beat two defenders on the line. It was a case of damage limitation for Wellesbourne in the second half but more great work by Usher provided Paul Burns with the fourth with 30 minutes remaining. Ten minutes later, Coleshill were awarded a penalty and keeper Greg Allen stepped forward confidently but the kick was saved by his opposite number. Allen's blushes were spared when he was given another chance from the spot and this time he made no mistake. Seven minutes from time, Grady scored his second, and Coleshill's sixth, with a powerful header.

Coleshill Town Are Granted Promotion

Coleshill Town FC have bounced straight back into the Premier of the Midland Combination. Town have been informed by the league that they have been granted promotion back to the top flight at the first time of asking. The side were relegated two seasons ago after 25 years in the Premier Division and they finished fourth in last season's First Division, just outside the automatic promotion places. But with two Premier Division sides requesting demotion and the poor state of third placed Knowle's ground, Town applied for promotion. Midland Combination officials inspected their Packmeadow ground and after a band of willing volunteers helped them bring the ground up to standard, the league has given Town the nod. Now they plan to reach the Midland Alliance in three years.
